I've never really checked how the Kindle handled Windows' crappy USB stack, but I'm not *that* surprised to hear about it needing a proper eject to trigger the unplug event I'm hooking on the Kindle side... But the few Windows tests I did, I did with an eject (from Calibre, actually, which usually ensures that it *really* does an umount/eject...), yes .

I stumbled upon it while trying out a bunch of different fonts. Every once in a while, the menu button would become unresponsive after copying new fonts over preventing me from rebooting so I had to use the auto-reboot feature. Took me a few tries to figure out to get it to actually reboot since I'm usually pretty bad about not properly ejecting devices in Windows. As far as I can tell, everything seems to be working great. If I run across any odd behavior, I'll let you know.

I have recently received a K3.3 (611680021) in replacement for a broken one.

I had previously installed the jailbreaks on my previous 2 devices (3.0 and 3.1), but now, even following the described procedure I am unable to install the jb on the new kindle.
It keeps giving me the U007 error.

Any idea why? Suggestions?

no, i don't think it was the wrong jailbreak...
I used 3.2.1 as suggested, just seems not to work.
maybe they changed it slightly and I can't use the 'old jailbreak'

if you got a u007 error when *installing* the jailbreak, your device is already jailbroken, or has traces left of a jailbreak...

possible that there are traces left. I noticed there are 'uninstall' files for all the versions but the 3.2.1. would it be possible to remove the jailbreak or what's left of it and then restart from the beginning? do you think it would solve the problem?
I tried with the N.10 version, but it did not work.

This says something about how the (used) Kindles being provided in warrenty exchanges are being handled.
They must not be doing a full, factory firmware, re-load before being used as replacement items.
That is something that has caused problems in the recent past for manufacturers of other consumer items that can connect to a pc by USB. (picture frames, USB storage devices, misc other things).

Back in the "olden days", I once got a replacement hard drive that was full of somebody else's porn (in an AOL download folder, no less). Apparently, they forgot to reformat it.

There is a law against possession of confidential taxpayer information. That is almost as bad as people that went to jail after purchasing a vehicle from a police auction, which the police seized in an drug-bust, and then the new owner getting busted because it still contained hidden drugs from the original owner. There are documented cases of that actually happening. I hope that you destroyed your illegal county taxpayer data.

I did.
And I was glad I was the one to buy the machine because I knew how to re-write the entire disk surface to get rid of the information. Some other buyer might not have known how.

Now maybe you coudl help me... I have a Kindle 3g, and it was give to me as a gift, and they already did a screensaver hack, so it has a logo on it, and I would like to remove that, do you know how I can do that? and is it risky for the info I have in it?

You would have to investigate what was done to replace the system screensavers with that logo.
That should not be hard to find out and should not be assumed to be one of the "screensaver hacks" - it may have been done by hand.

First bit of information needed:
Which model of Kindle do you mean by "Kindle 3g" - a lot of models have 3g.

how can I do a full clear up of the HD of my kindle then? or uninstall the jailbreak and try out the 3.2.1 version of it.
