UPDATE -- Audible Channels for Prime

I finished listing the books available for free listening and updated the restrictions. What I posted earlier was old information. I just checked to see if there were any changes and there were:

• Fire Tablets are supported -- 4th Gen & above
  
• Offline listening is allowed

Audible Channels is available in the Audible for Android, iOS, Windows 10 apps, as well as on 4th, 5th, and 6th Generation Fire Tablets (Fire HD 6", Fire HD 7", Fire 7", Fire HD 8". and Fire HD 10").

How do I listen to Channels on my mobile device?

Audible Channels content can be streamed or downloaded to listen to offline using the Audible app on iOS, Android, Windows 10, or on select Fire Tablets.

Ooo - now it gets interesting, especially given one of the items in the SF category. I imagine that, even if I download, it stops working at the end of the month it belongs to? So it's time limited?

Audible Channels for Prime has been around since Sep 2016. This is the second time I've updated the list. There's a thread on this topic -- Audible Channels -- in the Audiobook Discussions forum.

Most of the books have been available since this benefit first launched, so I have no idea how Audible determines the rotation. It's definitely not monthly.

As to keeping a downloaded book, it could be tagged so that it'll no longer play if it's removed from the catalog or you cancel your Prime membership.

My guess is that it would be deleted from your device when it stopped being available.

Sounds good. I'll see if I can get to it before it disappears. Given that I've read the book (or ebook) version of it twice already, I'll be okay even if I miss is.

I REALLY don't follow audiobooks, but this looked good to me, and a quick search showed no previous mention of Sue Grafton/Kinsey Milhone titles in this thread, so I'm putting this up. If these are not good prices, or this is sort of standard, I apologize in advance.

While looking at the fifteen Grafton/Milhone ebooks that are on sale for $2.99 (cross-post for that if you're interested), I noticed 4 titles are $2.95 in audiobook. Since on the rare occasions I look at audiobooks they seem to be a lot more than this, I thought I'd post. These are older titles, in the middle of the alphabet, but WTH...

EDIT: Looking more closely, I now notice that they all say "abridged". Is that common for audiobooks, or does that mean they are basically worthless?

Abridged is bad. Some people don't mind, but most do. Take L is for Lawless for example. The full-length audiobook is 9.1 hrs and the abridged version is 3.0 hrs. They cut out 6.1 hrs, which is 2/3 of the book. Would you read the ebook if 2/3 of it were removed?

Edit: it used to be common to abridge audiobooks back in the olden days when they were trying to cram them onto cassettes and CDs. But now that we've switched over to flash storage, there's really no reason to do so.
