The iTouch is pretty sweet with the web surfing etc, but the 32GB model is still too expensive as I'd not pay above $200 for such a device as I'd mainly just use it as an MP3 player anyway.
I believe that you can get a remote control that incorporates FM reception for each current iPod. What I miss is an AM feature, for baseball games, but since my iPhone now has radio apps, that should not be an issue for me this year. But it remains an issue for the regular iPods.

The same remote should give FM for the Touch, but only from wifi hot spots since there's no 3g connection on it.

UPDATE: but I'm wrong about the need for the 3g connection. I just remembered that my nano remote had fm reception on it.

True there are adapters etc. to get FM, but that was an added hassle--especially since a 30GB iPod at the time (and still) was a good deal more expensive than the Creative Vision M I bought.

So it just didn't make sense to me. iPod's are great, but the Creative does a great job at everything I need in an mp3 player for less cost.

Remember all the sales in the last quarter of '08 - big discounts and/or lots of rebates - wonder if FW was buffing up their sales in anticipation of being purchased?

And, there goes my plans for buying a device that can take DRM'ed mobi - I don't know what will happen w/ FW, my main book site.

I have a Sony and I'm tired of having to buy from FW, de-drm and format shift (most of what I read is DRM'ed). But, I love having my one book shelf.

For the iPod "classic" and Nano, yes. It works very well.

Like most iPod accessories, it doesn't work on the Touch.

You are probably right, but I have a vague recollection of having one that claimed not to work on the iPhone, but did anyway. I might be thinking about a remote, though, and not a remote + radio.

Given the fact that I have an iPod Touch, and I've tried using my remote/radio accessory on it, I'm think I'm rather more than "probably" right . When you plug it in, the Touch displays a message on the screen saying "This accessory is not supported" (or words to that effect).

Fictionwise off the air?

Haven't been able to log on all morning.
Anyone else having the same difficulty? Receiving the message...Page temporarily unavailable, please try later.
I wonder if they are going to give us a completely new web page.

Me neither, they make it sound like they are unique with a HD mp3 player. I want an MP3 player that plays MP3's. It should have a next, previous, play/pause and stop button...

Oh, this sounds good, but I like to think that the selection of books will be bigger because FictionWise has B&N behind them...

B&N is probably the only online book store that is big enough to stand up to Amazon, and the only one besides Amazon that can really stand up to publishers. So I'm cautiously optimistic about the purchase overall. I wonder what will happen to the library program, though? It seems kind of underfunded so far. Would it be in B&N's interests to get into that market? I believe the library books all use Mobipocket, which Fictionwise might lose altogether. I could see Amazon deciding not to let a subsidiary of B&N sell Mobipocket books.

"We bought Fictionwise because we like how they've approached the digital and e-book markets," said William Lynch Jr., president and chief operating officer of Barnes&Noble.com. "They have one of the most popular applications on the iPhone, and they really understand merchandising. They also have a lot of institutional knowledge about this space."

I've gotten that message, too. It isn't always right. There are sometimes non-Apple products that the ipods &c. work with anyway.

But of course, on a Touch, I wouldn't think you'd need an accessory to get radio, so long as you can get on wifi. Plenty of radio apps out there. Or you could get a cell phone with radio.

My own solution, before I got my iPhone, was to acquire a tiny am/fm radio, about the size of the new shuffle. Those seem to be harder to find these days, at least ones that work, at a price that isn't outrageous.
