I already ordered one in a shop called IT-Aktionen. Never heard of them before. Same is true for the shops on your list. How come noname shops claim to have stock but of Kobos offical partnershops none has a single unit???

Sigh. No joy on my order either. Order submitted on 31 August (ship date was still 06 Sep when I ordered) but no shipping notice so far. Here's hoping I receive a tracking number soon.

I'm really curious about how well Kobo is meeting the demand for the Aura One (i.e. are pre-orders shipping on time etc) because the impression I'm getting is that they're overwhelmed / disorganised / not expecting all the orders.

I pre-ordered on 1 September and I'm yet to receive a shipping notice. When I contacted Kobo CS via chat, they didn't even know that the 'available from' date on the Kobo site had changed to 15 September! They basically told me to go away (politely) and not bother them for another 5-7 business days.

Keep in mind people don't come to the forums to praise that they got their device on time, at least not in general. They come in droves if there is a problem with their order. I'm not saying Kobo is without issues, just to put things in perspective.

I will say it sounds like CS is given access to one part of the system, and if your order has reached that part then you're all set. If not, then you get the 'it'll ship in a few days'. That was my experience with my H2O. As I've noted elsewhere I got a tracking number within days of my order and was very impressed by the sharp contrast between my pre-order of the H2O (which had a longer pre-order window) and the Aura One.

As far as I know, all shops here got their preorders out in time (or even too early).

This is my second pre-order, my first was 3.5 years ago for the orginal Kobo Aura. The experience is about the same.

If you notice, when you purchased your Aura One from the Kobo Website, it actually has a different URL than the store where you purchase books. I think they are two seperate parts of a larger company. Sadly, the device ordering part does not seem to have a CS department, so we have to deal with the Book CS, which does not have access to device orders.

It is annoying and frustrating for new customers, especially if you are used to Amazon Prime where you have constant contact (and texts at every step in the process).

I ordered on Sept. 2 and got the standard 7-10 BUSINESS DAY (weekends don't count) notification in my order email. Day 7 falls on Sept. 13 (not counting Labor day in the U.S. as a holiday). Since the website said in stock on Sept. 15, I'm thinking mine will ship closer to day 10, which would be the 16th. So, I'm not expecting to hear about my device until the 15th or 16th. Then I will start to worry.

I think all this stress about shipping dates come down to fear of an unknown company, who might just be stealing your money. I know this fear isn't true. When I ordered my first Aura, it took at least a week after I ordered (and my credit card was charged) before I heard anything about shipping, but it arrived just fine.

This is then added to an instant world in which Amazon can get you things the next day (or faster). Kobo is not Amazon. And that is actually why I buy Kobo books and devices.

No improvement in this area shows quality customer service is not a priority. Three years from now we'll probably be having these conversations again, warning others to stay away and order from Chapters. Folks just want access to updated order status information. We're not expecting them to be Amazon.

Received my KA1 last night from Chapters via UPS (usually it's from the US Postal Service, so that's a change, plus no signature required). The sleep cover, which I ordered at the same time and was supposed to ship on Sept 6, is still not available. Chapters is showing Sept 15 availability. I won't use the ereader without a protective cover, so I am anxiously awaiting news: has anyone received their sleep cover yet (the official one, not custom or meant-for-another-reader-but-adapted-to-the-KA1)?

That's because they typically ship via Canada Post which transfers to USPS, but because Canada Post was threatening strike action they started using UPS "just in case" so packages didn't get stuck en route should they have ended up in a strike position. So Kudos to them for making extra sure you got your package regardless of Canada Posts issues.

Except my tracking info on their website says "Canada Post" and "US Ground Mail" but it was UPS. I don't care; I have my KA1 and I am happy. Now I just want the sleep cover!

ETA: Maybe they just used their standard tracking info blurb even though they used UPS instead. No matter. I was sad when the mail came yesterday and no package. Then, a few hours later, UPS rang the doorbell and there it was!

US Ground seems to be generic for 'standard US delivery', I ordered from Kobo and FedEx delivered mine on Tuesday the 6th.
