Another FREE Pdf Commentary, from William F. Luck and Peacemakers.net.
A week or so ago, I posted a pdf commentary on Proverbs, by Willam F. Luck, that I found (hidden) on Peacemaker.net's website.
At the time that I found that ebook, I dug up on their website another commentary by Luck (No, I'm not a hacker. ha. I just know a few nice little tricks.). For this one, I needed more time to look it over and see if it was worthy of being posted. I haven't been able to go through it like I would like to, but I read enough of it to know that it is a good commentary. For one thing, it appears that it has quite a bit of good material that is the result of the author's own personal study. Luck has one or more graduate degrees. He is a published author; however, like the previously posted ebook, this one appears never to have been published commercially. The book is substantial. It is not paginated, but I estimate that it has 200 - 250 pages. Anyway, the title is The Gospel of John: A Manual of Christian Apologetics. Probably some of you know immediately why it is called "a manual of apologetics," but for this dolt (yours truly) it took a little while to figure it out. The title has reference to the statement made in John 20:30-31, "Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." (NASB) (An aside: wouldn't it be nice if every "book" of the Bible came right out and told you the purpose for its writing?) Here is the direct link to the book. I hope that one or more of you will enjoy this not-easily-found commentary! Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 06-19-2015 at 08:05 PM. |

HarperCollins has a number of study Bibles on sale. These have all been on sale before and for less, but the sales have been stingier lately.
The Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible NASB edition is $4.99. If you're a fan of the NASB, this is better (even aside from the study material) than any of the Lockman editions. B&N Amazon The NIV First-Century Study Bible is $7.99. This one has recently become my favorite for just browsing the fascinating study notes. B&N Amazon The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible NLT edition is $7.99. B&N Amazon The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible NIV edition is $7.99. B&N Amazon The MacArthur Study Bible NASB edition is $7.99. B&N Amazon The MacArthur Study Bible NKJV edition is $7.99. B&N Amazon The Busy Dad's Bible NIV edition is $7.99. B&N Amazon The NIV Life Journey Bible is $7.99. B&N Amazon The NIV Men's Devotional Bible is $7.99. B&N Amazon The Game Plan for Life Bible NIV edition is $7.99. B&N Amazon The Journey (NIV) is $7.99. B&N Amazon The Maxwell Leadership Bible NIV edition is $7.99. B&N Amazon The Chronological Study Bible NIV edition is $8.25. B&N Amazon |

I've mentioned the following before, but it's been quite some time now, so I'll share it again. Christianbook has a mailing list to send daily announcements of each day's deals. You may want to sign up for those; I think that you can do that from a link at the extreme top right hand corner of just about any one of Christianbook's webpages, including their home page. Some of you may have too much email already (believe me, I do understand!) and would prefer just to check Christianbook's webpage for the "Daily Deals." |

This Apologetics Study Bible Is Available at Christianbook for Only $2.99!
It feels strange posting an ebook from Christianbook, I so rarely do it.
The price of $2.99 represents a respectable 70% markdown from the "retail price." This edition of this study Bible (2012) is apparently not available at Amazon as an ebook (that's unusual. G.). A prior, student edition (2010) is available there. The editions are very different, as you might surmise. For those who are new to the digital book world, or those who have been in it a while, but forgotten, the format of ebooks sold at Christianbook (ePub) is different from those sold at Amazon (Kindle mobi). This ePub ebook is DRM-Free. The HCSB (Holman Christian Standard Bible) is the translation used for the scripture portion of the study Bible. The Apologetics Study Bible. Holman Bible Publishers. Rated 4.5 stars, but from only 4 reviews at the present moment at Christianbook; rated 4.4 stars, from 297 reviews at Amazon. Retail price $9.99; Christianbook price now $2.99. Holman Bible Publishers, publisher. Number of pages not stated at Christianbook; hardback is 2048 pages (Amazon). http://www.christianbook.com/the-apo...EB?event=ESRCG. Book Description Real Questions. Straight Answers. Stronger Faith. The Apologetics Study Bible will help today’s Christians better understand, defend, and proclaim their beliefs in this age of increasing moral and spiritual relativism. More than one-hundred key questions and articles placed throughout the volume about faith and science prompt a rewarding study experience at every reading. 2240 pages, from Broadman & Holman. The Apologetics Study Bible features valuable contributions from a who’s-who of modern apologists such as Chuck Colson, Norm Geisler, Hank Hanegraaff, Josh McDowell, Albert Mohler, Ravi Zacharias, J. P. Moreland, and Phil Johnson. Other features include: - The full text of the popular Holman Christian Standard Bible® translation - Two-color page layout - Introduction to each Bible book focusing on its inherent elements of apologetics - 10 point text - Double-column format - Book Outlines - Translation Footnotes - Articles on ethics, science, archaeology, philosophy, and non-Christian belief systems - Study notes that explain "problem" passages - Sidebars on Scriptures misused by cults - Profiles of historic Christian apologists from Justin Martyr to C. S. Lewis - Plan of Salvation - Hardcover - 6 3/4" x 9" x 1 1/2" |

Really Nice, Heavily Illustrated Book on Life of Apostle Paul. Was $29.99; Now $0.99!
That is a 97% markdown.
The Illustrated Life Of Paul. By Charles L. Quarles. Rated 4.7 stars, but from only 7 reviews at Amazon at the present moment; rated 4.20, from 10 ratings at GoodReads. Print list price $29.99; digital list price $29.99; Kindle price now $0.99. B&H Academic, publisher. 300 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-Li...K2BEE3TCKX9JVS. I happen to know that this ebook is also available at Christianbook (DRM-Free) for 99 cents, if you want or need ePub. Book Description Except for the Lord Jesus himself, no person has been more influential in the history of the church than Saul of Tarsus. Paul’s influence upon the early church’s most cherished convictions is so clear and powerful that some scholars have dared to describe him as the founder of Christianity. Paul had a greater impact on the formation of the Christian church than any other apostle. He wrote thirteen of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament so that nearly half of the New Testament documents bear his name. Although some of Paul’s letters are brief compared to other New Testament books, his epistles compromise approximately one-fourth of the total volume of the New Testament. Approximately sixteen chapters of the Book of Acts focus on Paul’s persecution of the church, conversion, missionary labors, arrest and imprisonment. When these chapters are combined with Paul’s letters, Paul may be recognized as the author or subject of nearly one-third of the New Testament. Paul was not only the most effective Christian missionary and church planter in history, but also the most significant and influential interpreter of Jesus’ teachings and of the significance of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and return. This book introduces readers to this amazing man and his incredible story. It explains the background of each of Paul’s letters and offers a summary of the beliefs of one of the keenest theological minds in the history of the church. All along, it enables the reader an opportunity to step into the world of Paul with over 150 photos, maps, illustrations, and charts. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 07-14-2015 at 10:55 PM. |

A Big, Quality Work on the History of Israel to the Birth of Jesus. Only $2.99.
The price of $2.99 represents a 92% markdown from the digital list price!
The reviews on this book are somewhat uneven. All in all, however, it looks like a worthwhile book. For certain, it gives a lot of "bang for the buck," with the book having 560 pages and being marked down to $2.99! A book on the life and work of Paul is a good reference work to have on part of the New Testament (the Acts of the Apostles forward). Similarly, a history of Israel is a good reference work to have for Old Testament and Intertestamental Bible study. The author, Walter Kaiser, is a prolific author, and prolific contributor to other books. He is an evangelical, and the publisher is B&H, so you can expect the book to take the position that the Biblical record is historically accurate. I happen to know that this ebook is also available for $2.99 at Christianbook (DRM-Free), if you want or need ePub. A History of Israel. By Walter C. Kaiser Jr. Rated 3.6, but from only 11 reviews at the present moment, at Amazon; rated 3.70, from 20 ratings, at GoodReads. Print list price N/A; digital list price $34.99; Kindle price now $2.99. B&H Books, publisher. 560 pages. http://www.amazon.com/History-Israel...+israel+kaiser. Book Description A History of Israel refutes many of today's common misconceptions about Israel and sets down an accurate account of its history, from the Patriarchal Age to the birth of Christ, based on Holy Scriptures. With his customary thoroughness and attention to detail, Walter C. Kaiser, Jr., has carefully research his subject, assembled the facts, and conveyed his findings in a convincing narrative style. Kaiser not only uses the Bible as a resource, but also supports the Scriptures' historical claims with ancient Eastern documents and compelling archaeological evidence. The complete chronological history of Israel presents and explains: * Current approaches to the study of the history of Israel * Common fallacies found in modern secular historical study * The most convincing proofs for the historical authenticity of the Bible Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 07-15-2015 at 02:06 AM. |

Understanding Genesis by Jason Lisle--$2.99 (70% Off of the Digital List Price).
There are very few ratings at Amazon on this book (none at GoodReads yet), because it is newly published. I'm posting this on the basis of the strength of the ratings of Dr. Lisle's other books at Amazon.
Understanding Genesis: How to Analyze, Interpret, and Defend Scripture. By Jason Lisle. Rated 5 stars, but from only 2 reviews at the present moment (it has just been published). Print list price $16.99; digital list price $9.99; Kindle price now $2.99. MasterBooks, publisher. 551 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-...fend+Scripture. Book Description There are many opinions and subsequent interpretations on the Book of Genesis. What did the author of Genesis intend and how can we possibly know, or is the important thing only what the Bible “means to you”? In this book, Dr. Jason Lisle answers questions such as: - What are the most common mistakes people make in trying to understand Genesis? - What are the necessary rules of biblical interpretation, and what is the proper role of science in understanding the Bible? - How does one identify the various types of biblical literature, and how do the rules of interpretation handle each type – poetic, prophetic, historical, etc.? Is there one correct interpretation of the Bible, or are there many? Discover why alternative positions are rationally impossible. Unlock a powerful understanding of God’s Word and equip yourself with a reasoned defense against those who distort the Word of God. |

Wiersbe's Be Resolute (Book of Daniel). Digital List $12.99; FREE Right Now.
New edition (2010).
My posting of this book does not necessarily indicate my agreement with any doctrinal positions taken in the book. Be Resolute (Daniel): Determining to Go God's Direction (The BE Series Commentary). By Warren W. Wiersbe. Rated 4.9 stars, but from only 16 reviews at the present moment at Amazon; rated 3.88 from 34 ratings at Goodreads. Print list price $14.99; digital list price $12.99; Kindle price now $0.00. David C. Cook, publisher. 208 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Resolute-Danie...+Commentary%29. I noticed that the ebook (ePub) apparently is not available at Christianbook. It may or may not be available in ePub elsewhere. Book Description The book of Daniel relates the familiar Sunday school stories of the lions' den, the fiery furnace, and some remarkable prophecies, but take some time to investigate these stories more closely. How did Daniel, Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego possess such a fearless faith? Perhaps no one in the Bible possessed a more resolute faith in God than these individuals. Daniel and his peers never took the easy way out, but stood their ground, even in the face of death. There's a lot to be learned from Daniel about unshakable faith. Study this extraordinary Old Testament book. Even more importantly, apply what you learn as respected Bible teacher Warren W. Wiersbe unfolds both the explicit and implicit teachings to lead you to a more resolute faith. |
