Is it okay to post books that have been reviewed or recommended by readers of my blog? I have a couple of "informal" reviewers who sometimes review books for my blog or send me an email with a rec--I blog them, but don't always read them myself. Some of the books are indie books. I am not sure if that passes the "smell test" for this thread, but I thought I'd ask because every once in a while the recommendations look interesting to me.
This is not something that happens all that often as both of the people I'm thinking of only rarely rec a book or review it for a post on the blog. |

Your readers can of course post here if they wish, but the distinction is supposed to be between self-published (to include indies that publish only one author) and books that have gone though rather wider acceptance either now or earlier (for reprints) or that the poster personally recommends.

That's what the blog is for in the first place so I'll just keep it there. There's just been a couple lately that have looked particularly interesting so I thought I'd mention them here because I don't see a lot of cozy mentions, but I haven't actually sat down and read them. The one is a reprint, I think, but I am not positive. It's not a big deal. I was pretty sure that I should just stick to what I've read. Makes perfect sense.

There's been several, but they were done as monthly and we get few enough non-self-pub cozy freebies that one hasn't been started yet for November (perhaps a mod might perhaps consider merging some of the ones from July/August, September, & October if the OPs are amenable, since there were discussions and reading recs included in some of the threads?) |

Since there are so few cozy bargains/recs, it makes more sense to just add them here. I don't really need another thread to follow! Although I didn't realize that I didn't see them here because there used to be a thread for them.

Sometimes people just want to specifically zoom in on a sub-sub-genre that particularly interests them without having to go through the rest. Bargain @ $1.99 for today only (Nov 12th) according to the newsletter from Open Road Media (couponable @ Kobo, should be available in all the standard US stores, apparently geo-restricted to US-only, etc.): The Private Sector by Irish writer Joseph Hone (Wikipedia), a vintage espionage mystery/thriller originally published in 1971, 1st in his Peter Marlow series starring a British schoolteacher turned spy, this installment set during Israel's Six Day War in 1967. To find an old friend, a past-his-prime spy steps into a war zone When Henry Edwards recruited him to work as an intelligence officer, Peter Marlow was young enough that espionage seemed romantic. They were in Cairo during the Suez Crisis, two young spies haunting dinner parties and back alleys in search of morsels of information that were never as important as they seemed. A decade later, espionage has lost its sheen, and Henry confesses to Peter that he’s considering resignation. A few days later, he’s gone. Is Henry dead, or is he planning to defect? Either way, the service wants him buried. Peter is sent to Cairo in search of his old friend. But as war looms over Israel and the Arab states, and President Nasser’s life comes under threat, Peter’s task becomes more challenging than he would like. Espionage is a young man’s game, and more than ever before, he feels close to the grave. |

![]() Also - the cozy thread doesn't adhere to the self-published "you must have read and personally recommend" rule because there just aren't enough offerings to be too picky. I actually need to post a couple of cozy deals I found. Quote:
A lot of avid cozy readers don't like the grittier/harder/bloodier stuff. Thus the separate thread. It doesn't mean they can't be included here, but I think some people like not having to try and sort. |

I think there's another reason to begin the cozy, if I remember, and it was mentioned at the romance thread: people didn't come here because cozy weren't usually included here (although they are sometimes). So, if the last cozy thread could get its yearly stick, we could try to add it some ones there (and no self-published rule there, that was for sure as I initiated a couple of the threads
