Yup .... I have devised a test that would work to weed out those people who should not own pets or have children.

You put the test subject in a room - preferably wearing clothing that they really like. Then you dump a bucket full of either animal vomit, pee and poop, or human vomit, pee and poop, all over them from above.

If they throw up and start weeping, they should not have pets or children. If they shrug their shoulders, say "Oh well, shit happens", and ask for a towel to clean up the mess ... then they should be licensed to have animals and/or children.

Half the building/upholstering skills I have learned over the years has been to be able to maintain the furniture in the house after it has been clawed to ribbons and then peed on, or puked on, or pooped on. You learn things like .... do an underlayer of something water resistant and an overlayer of something that can be washed.

Use Kilz primer on all surfaces on which a cat might spray, and then cover that with a very durable water resistant paint (those generally made for outdoor use are best).

The only cats I have that are declawed were mutilated by the people who had them prior to when they came to me. I cannot abide the idea of what is in essence cutting an animals fingers and toes off at the first knuckle. If someone did that to a child, they'd be doing time for serious abuse.

Great .... now I'm in serious need of chocolate and some cute kitteh pictures.

My reasons for having animals is because they were about to be put to death. Mostly because they were old, crippled or sick. Some because, like you, the former family could not deal with a behavior problem. My way of thinking was that it was at least marginally better to have the animals living with me than it was to kill them.

Other than that .... well, I really shouldn't have animals because I'm so damn allergic to them.
Oh! I wish we could have done that! But borders? Distance? Québec is a long ways off...

My little guy used to spray kitchen counters and the cooking stove and all window sills and carpets and cloth upholstery. He was a real walking bladder! Oh, and I forget the cooking utensils pot next to the stove. The hours washing and the shame the odours brought, to the point of not having visits anymore.

He was the little guy on the right.

BTW The vet doing the sending off told me that 85% of cats put out were for marking.

My cats pee and poop on the stove all the time. That's why I made the stove cover (the photo of it is in another thread).

I've gotten cats from as far away as 2,500 miles ... they've been flown in to me, driven in to me. Whatever it takes.

My dear old Lyndon (who had diabetes and a brain tumor) peed constantly. He was a giant (a result of the tumor), so when he peed ... it was a LOT of pee. I'd just mop up after him. It's what I do.

I realize that most people don't feel the way I do about cats and dogs. That's why I try not to come down on people like a ton of bricks when they feel like they don't have any choice in what to do .... but, for me ... personally, to have a cat for five years who started marking, would be like having a five year old child who started wetting the bed. In neither case would I feel like the death penalty was warranted.

However .... I realize that I am in a serious minority in how I feel about cats and dogs. But, that's how I've gotten several of my "children" ... from families who couldn't deal with an illness or a behavior problem or a handicap.

That's why I'm so pissed off at the stupid City of Horseshoe Bay. It just chaps my hide no end to have them telling me that I "can't" take in anymore animals. That I "have to" bring the number of animals down to three. What complete morons those people are ... oh, great ... now I'm getting angry again. (Stupid assholes who run HSB .... )

Get over it?? Not likely ... I am planning to take them to Federal Court, you know? Yes, I'm actually going to make a Federal case out of it. (Don't everybody start laughing and pointing at the same time.)

And ... yes, very cute kitteh pic. Like it very much.

Going to bed early tonight ... not to sleep, just to bed. I've been out sawing and hammering away, had to go back into town to get more lumber. Went to Wendy's at lunch, and one of the counter employees (nice girl) had taken a bit too much of her pain/allergy medications (poor thing was zonked out of her mind), so I drove her home. And, honestly, I am pooped pure and simple.

So, I'm going to read and then watch 48 Hours (talked to a bunch of people who knew the victim, and they said it sounds like 48 Hours is going to try to sensationalize the whole story). Then, I'm going to sleep.
