I imagine you can probably compile a book in Calibre to embed and use the bold version of Bookerly. I might do it for a friend if I can find time to suck the font off their Kindle. It looks very similar to Caecilia.

I guess I am the only one that believes that if the book is readable read it. Yes I need the text to be clear and clean enough to read. But I do not care about hyphenation, and I do not use any of the other things other than looking up what a word means every now and then. And some times how it is pronounced. I love the right side to be uneven and I do not like extra spaces in the lines.
And while I am a bad speller myself I get upset when I find words misspelled or miss typed go figure there. I just love to read and I read fiction, non fiction, and history. All I ask is give me something that is readable. |

I don't understand Amazon's reasons for not offering a heavier / bold option for their fonts. For many people, this would make the text more readable.

You can also use Report Content Error feature on the Kindle itself. It's probably good to do both, as they probably get different people looking at the reports. RCE is recorded at your kindle.amazon.com page and you can track status there.

Amazon has a history of delivering Kindle updates that include font tweaks (e.g. 'darker fonts'). Perhaps they will do that in this case as well. Note that PW2 has different screen resolution than PW3 and Voyage, and the font files should be different for best results on each.

I have a Voyage and a Paperwhite 2 and I have the same book on both and it has enhanced fonts enabled. I'm using Bookerly on both. I don't think I can see any difference in the weight of the fonts on the two devices.
There's enough difference in the color that I can't be totally sure. I'll probably go outdoors and look tomorrow in daylight with the lights off and maybe then I can see it. I also compared Caecila on both devices and it seems the same as well. I first decided not to use Bookerly because it was lighter than Caecila but then I decided to give it a try because it's close enough I wasn't sure it really mattered. I've been using it most of the time since I got it and I find I don't really care which one I use. They both seem fine to me. I've gone back and forth a few times. I can tell the difference when I compare them. Caecila does seem a bit darker. But while reading I don't notice. Barry |

I've put the eInk version of Bookerly on my H2O. I find Bookerly to be too light. I had to use advanced font controls to add some weight. Once done, Bookerly is pretty good.

You just have to download a Kindle firmware that contains Bookerly. Then using freely available tools, you can get into the firmware to get access to Bookerly. It's right there for the taking to anyone who can get in and get Bookerly.

I used to use Calibre to add Hyphenation in my AZW3 books, but I lost the Sync Capability with other devices, and it's a lot of work and no too much gain for me, sometimes the mobi files looks awkward ( some lines in the mobi files, not even the whole book) but still can be a enjoyable reading experiance. I Still have more option that in a paper book. |

Here's what I did- I opened up an enhanced book on the Kindle app on my Galaxy tab - the Android kindle app hasn't been updated with the new typesetting engine and so therefore it was just the standard version. Used the biggest font size, in Cecelia. All was as expected. I opened up the same enhanced book (REVIVAL by STEPHEN KING in case you wanna know) on an iPad with a version of the Kindle app that had been updated with the new typesetting features. I looked at the same exact sentence/word at HUGE font sizes and saw 0 difference in the way capital W's are displayed. In WHEN for example, both word size and character placement in each example were identical. (I did note however that there were more words per line on my iPad and then I realised that the new typesetting engine improves sizing between words.) Had a look at Yo, Ye pairs as well - same thing. Absolutely no difference between devices. So after waiting so long for this update and not even getting some of the features I was promised, I ended up selling my Voyage and buying myself a new Samsung Galaxy S Tab 8.4 -the difference between the 300ppi vs the 359 ppi display is absolutey huge - the text on a tablet vs an ereader is pretty much incomporable - reading books on a tablet is about a thousand times better than reading anything on an ereader. As such, I'm pretty much dropping out of the ereading game permanently. I'm pretty upset about how this typesetting engine rolled out - but I'd recommend you all do yourselves a favour and get rid of all your ereaders and just get a tablet with a high resolution: I'm pretty pleased I'm no longer boxed inside by Amazon's shitty Voyage walled garden with its two toned screen and purple hued text and fail typesetting updates. Anywho, rant over. Thanks Amazon for making my final foray with e-reading a disappointing and dishonest experience and waking me up to the magical world of reading on a tablet. Update: I just saw this image on Google (attached) so using that image as an example I will try the comparison again but I'm fairly confident Amazon have failed to utilize this feature. Will update soon ![]() |

I love my eink kindles. It's absolutely impossible for me to read novels on a tablet - too heavy, and backlit screen tires my eyes. But to each his own. |
