What I didn't quite understand was this: "Amazon wanted us to let you know that the version of the Kindle we had a chance to look at is specifically intended for the European market." Does that mean that the European differs from the US version?

What's also interesting is that these guys seem to prefer the new Kobo Aura. Isn't the Aura still using the older Pearl E Ink technology? Shouldn't its screen, which is the most important component of an eBook reader, be inferior to the new Paperwhite, which uses Carta?

Amazon has said that they're going to port some features over to the old Paperwhite, as long as they are not depending on the faster CPU or the new hardware. I think that this is one of those features. You don't need any hardware to do this.

So you may want to wait a bit. You might just see your KPW get this feature.

I wonder if some features are backported to the Touch... like they did with some of the Paperwhite1 features.

A couple of things leaped out at me on that video:

• The screen looks really blue in that light
• I definitely see shadow and color blobs, especially on popup windows

Good plan. Last year I decided to keep my Touch until I decided on the PW. I finally sent all the PW units back and was VERY glad I still had my Touch.

I'm keeping both! One upstairs and one for downstairs. I need a second reader I can actually use. My other non lit ones just look too horrible once I got use to the PW so they just sit on the shelf. I can't go back to a non lit screeen.

I'm sure they will but I've been waiting to buy a second PW for awhile now and so glad I waited for the new version to come out.

@jswinden: Why don't you just get yourself an iPad Mini, maybe even the Retina when it comes out?

You'd have a perfect screen, and be done with it. Then you don't have to torture yourself looking at stacks of ereaders, all fitted with screens you already *know* won't live up to your expectations.

Right now, I'm holding out along with you. I really like some of the new features and would really like to have them, but I'll wait until xendula gets hers and see what she says. It will have to be perfect for me to make the leap again. I can't tell too much from the video review that was posted really. I can't tell if I see color blobs or if it's shadows from something in the room, but I wasn't too encouraged by the video review. I guess we'll see what people say when they receive it.

I already have an iPad 3 and an iPhone 5. I do about 90-95% of my reading on the iPhone 5 at night. But I still want a decent touchscreen eInk for reading in bright areas, especially outdoors. The Touch is okay, but an improvement would be nice. I was hoping they would release a non-lighted version of the PW this year, but that didn't happen.

The PW2 in that video looks almost the same as the three PW1s I tried last year. The same blue tint and huge shadow blobs in the center of the screen. Very disappointing, but it makes me happy I didn't pre-order one.

Same here. I'd want to know what someone who did see the color blobs on the PW1 thinks of the PW2.

Funny how we all either saw no blobs at all, or blobs all over the screens. I wonder if those of us who saw the blobs are tetrachromats. There is an ongoing study about this. (they may be mistaken by limiting it to only women)

Anyone seen a mention as to if the PW2's light can be switched completely off? Probably not, but thought I'd ask. Still trying to decide if I'll keep my order or cancel.

Why? Since some firmware updates ago, the Touch basically IS a non-lighted version of the Paperwhite. OK, it's different physically, but with regard to software, it seems to be (almost) the same.

If you're going to wait for a Paperwhite without a light (basically, the Touch in an KPW case), then I'm thinking that you will be waiting forever.
