Agreed, I'm not expecting updates any more, but the DXG was still reasonably current when KF8 appeared (as much as the K3 was, anyway), and when the K3 got support for it, I hoped the DX would, too. And the K2 & DX aren't that different hardware-wise from the the K3, as the unofficial port of the 3.x firmware to the DX proves.

I love my new Aura HD, but I would love a frontlghted, hi-res 9.7" reader even more. So come on, Jeff, where is my 2400x1650 DXG II with frontlight? It doesn't even have to be a Carta screen. I'll make do with Pearl

Yes, I know it is. It was the fact that the review states that it loses track of where you are that I was questioning. It's probably a typo.

I see. I glossed right over the typo. Yes, I can flip through the pages on my current PW and lose track just fine. I usually use a bookmark when I do that, though.

Yours and xendula's reviews are about the only two I would trust since we all went through so many faulty units. I remember bringing up the faulty screen and getting murdered by insults from MR posters for a while until you two, and a few others, began to back me up with the same reports. I was astonished to see one reviewer of the PW2 state that Amazon told him they had fixed the faulty screens, or words to that effect. If that is true, then Amazon has finally admitted they shanked the PW1 screen design.

It is a benefit if it allows you to look ahead in the book without losing place marker for farthest page read. Not sure how it will work but it could be a nice feature if properly designed.

Yes I am super excited about this feature. I can't tell you how many times I had to backtrack a few pages or chapters to remember what hero or heroine look like or if I think I see a inconsistency I have to bookmark my page before traveling back so I would get the new PW just for this feature!

In that photo, the one of the left looks like it has quite a bit whiter screen. I assume it is a bad photo though and you can see the difference much better in person.

Thankfully, we had our last-gen Paperwhite in hand, and quite frankly, we couldn't really tell the difference --until we picked it up, that is. Gen two of the Paperwhite is noticeably lighter than its predecessor.

Long-time Paperwhite users will be able to tell you that the minute they hold it in their hands

Sure, we were in a well-lit room, but the new front lighting really does look great -- much more evenly dispersed than before. The contrast has been improved as well, though that's a bit tougher to verify at first glance. Same with the touch, which is a bit more accurate, according to Amazon.

The problem is they used a lot of light in the room to take this photo. I bet if you see it in a more typically lit room it won't looks as good. It does look like the white is better, but the blacks still look washed out. I don't think the Pearl to Carta screen improvement is going to be as pronounced as the pre-Pearl to Pearl was. The eInk advancements and improvements seem to have slowed down considerably. This many years after the eInk introduction one would think they would be much better by now than they are. Perhaps they have pushed eInk to the limit already.

Lighter is better! I hear all pluses on the new model so far! It makes me excited! I am going to have to get a new cover as there is no way I can get my old one out of it's cover. Its suppose to be easy but I just don't have the strength to remove it.
