PhotoRec is a companion program to TestDisk, a free, open source disk recovery program. TestDisk is cross platform, runs on a variety of things, and can handle any file system. It bypasses the OS file system and does direct low-level disk reads. It started out as a tool to recover lost partitions, but has grown rather beyond that. PhotoRec grew out of TestDisk. It is intended to recover lost digital images. Like TestDisk, it does direct low level disk reads, examines disk sectors, and does a good job of figuring out what parts it sees are image files, and recovering them to another drive. (I've used it here.) You'll need to examine, rename, and reclassify what it finds, but if it works at all you should get most of your pictures back. See http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk for TestDisk, and http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec for PhotoRec. ______ Dennis |

Ta-ta, KK! Ooops. I mean: bubye! Have a nice trip & talk to us when you can.
Disks: sometimes (i am told) freezing a hard disk can make it work for a few more seconds. Perhaps long enough to get the data off. But keep the moisture out while you make it cold - in a zip lock bag, or something. |

Well, if this Global Warming thing ever catches on, he could be washing up on the shores of Denver before you know it.

I used to worry about losing all my important data.
Then I remembered that it is highly unlikely my brain will crash. |
