When I tested mine over a 2-hour daytime reading session I lost about 7% with light set at 15%, which is only about a third of what you guys are seeing. I had wi-fi completely disabled plus all the auto-sensor thingies set to OFF including the new option on the Settings - Energy saving and privacy page - 'Automatically turn off light in bright sunlight' - which I unchecked.

Same here. I think the 10% per hour is probably going to be par for the course for the KA1
That would be seriously greedy LED's to be honest; I don't know 100% sure, but I think my KPW still has a multiple week battery capacity after 4 years, when reading about an hour per day.

However, the KA1 has a much brighter light than the KPW1. I normally read on setting 12-15 on the KA1, which means the light is in between 50-65% or so; on the KA1, the light is mostly at 10% or 15%.

Per customer support I did a factory reboot. Reinstalled everything. Turned off wifi and autosynch. Fully charged the unit. It was completely discharged the next morning. I have been in touch with customer support but still no solution. This is very frustrating since I do like the reader but the use experience so far is far less satisfying than with my excellent H2O. This is not a great start for a flagship reader.

Have you tried doing a 'full off' after turning off wifi and synch?

I got around 2.5% per hour until a randomly disappeared dictionary forced me to turn wifi on to reload it. Although I immediately turned wifi off, the the battery drained overnight.

After recharging I did a full off and restarted and it's now using around 2.5%/hour (no light) again.

It looks as if (in my case, at least) once wifi was turned on, some power hungry process started that did not end or suspend when wifi was turned off, but did not restart when the device initialised with wifi off.

I'd be better if you'd upload everything you need via a computer and the kobo app/software and not via wifi. Also did you change the configurations to not sync in the conf. with Notepad++? Unless you do so, it will initiate the synching process in the background over and over again.

Got my KA1 on Thursday, plugged it in, initialised it, put it aside once fully charged and found it completely discharged the next morning. Read the forums, turned off PeriodicAutoSync in the configuration file and it's been fine ever since: almost three days with quite a bit of reading.

I do.

I didn't have a choice with the dictionary as, once I'd selected 'English' and pressed save, it simply demanded a wifi connection to continue.

Well, evidently this is not happening (or, if it is, it's causing negligible battery drain), as I'm currently getting better than 2.5% per hour which is pretty much acceptable and probably on a par with the Voyage.

This happened to me too - so to get around it I downloaded and sideloaded a dictionary from the dictionary thread here.

I am sorry, somehow the 2.5% part of your post didn't register with my brain. Hence my wisecracking.

Over the last few days it seems to have settled down to 3-5% per hour which is what I'd expect with the light on, so perhaps it was just a battery calibration issue.

Hopefully the new firmware will fix the sleep battery drain and the Aura One will be perfect.

Mike.

Haven't read the whole thread: just finished a 830-page ePUB book on cryptography (the kind of book where you frequently go one or more pages backwards, because you have to look up something) with lightning brightness set to max on a single charge.

To me that's perfect.

The battery charge is now 34%, after not having used the Aura ONE for about a week or so. (Haven't got a lot of time to read at home.) So, it dropped around 30% in 7x24 hours.

I find it strange that the device uses power when nothing is enabled; the old KPW1 drops much slower.
