I suggest finding a free font that looks similar enough to Gothic and side load that.

I don't agree, we patch firmware that is copyrighted to, we don't know what the reason is why kobo removed it from the firmware, so as far as I know, still running on 3.18 I am entitled to use it. The way to find it was posted in this same topic, just one page back.. If no one reads it, that is not my mistake.. If an administrator remove the post, that is fine by me, but if Kobo does not tell their customers that a license for a font is revoked, we as buyers are still entitled to use it. People that doesn't buy the device and use the font are trespassing.
Links to new firmware are posted every time and every one can understand that fonts are in it. Maybe kobo remove it by technical reasons.. We only have to guess why it is removed.. There is no download link provided to the fonts. If an administrator decided that it is illegal, fine by me but as long as kobo doesn't tell that there is no longer a license to use it, I think it is legal to use it for customers who buying the reader with that font included, so let's not all playing for administrator here, I just pointing out what was posted before and was not reported or removed earlier. I can't help it that no one reads one page back while I do.

It is okay you report the post, if I can recall it right it is also a "rule" that when you report a post, that you don't mention that in the topic.. You judge me like I am providing any copyright material. Whatever the reason behind why Kobo removed the font, the safest legal option is to find a font which resembles Gothic which is either purchasable by the public, or free for the public and to use that one.

I can back what Peter said. Kobo (prior to this discussion) was asked in the beta group and confirmed they removed it for licensing reasons.
And I would also point out to Nick_1964 that yes, you still have the right to use Gothic IF you're using an older version of the firmware that included it. Since the firmware is licensed to you for use as a whole, if the firmware version you are using does not contain a given font, then you not licensed to use the font (even if a previous version was licensed to allow you to do so).

What does Giothic look like? I've not seen it and a web search brings up fonts that would not be it.

It is up to an administrator who can tell if someone placed something against guidelines.

Sure, it can be more easy done (and legal) to find a similar font.
But it would be nice if an admin tell me the difference between breaking copyright of all those topics where copyrighted material can be altered including the patches to do that, or just a simple message of a person that is telling where you can find a font if you still have the software.
Then the next question pops in if someone asks how the font looks like.
Are you breaking copyright if you show a picture of it ?

Bottom line is, the border between what is legal and not, is thin.
If you think someone crossed it, report it to an admin.
Don't give people names or judge them by calling that they are one of the persons "that MobileRead can not and will not post directions of ANY type on bypassing copyright" because you don't represent it.

Because you make it personal by that,there are other ways to tell me like sending a personal message to me if you THINK I break a rule.
Thats decent.
And also a guideline of this forum : if you think someone is crossing the line,use the report function, dont act like a wannabee admin.

(maybe it will be a relief that the method the guy describes to get the fonts will give you an Gothic MB101.otf file that doesn't work at all..but thats beside the point I try to make.)

I think I found the reason why the Gothic or Ryumin fonts are removed by the way.
Not due to copyright reasons if I read it well.
Our friend (and admin) DR.Drib is fighting with it and have reported something about it.

This is Kobo's Gothic font, font weight is around 50%. I'm still using 3.18.

Edit: I submitted it to WhatTheFont and these are the suggested replacements, with Nimbus pretty much an exact match (lower case g is about the only main difference I picked up):
Nimbus Sans Regular
Nimbus Sans Novus D Medium
Neue Haas Grotesk Pro Text 55 Roman

Just Google "font name free download" and you'll find several options. 1001Fonts.com has all versions of it.

Just updated to firmware v3.19 on my Aura HD (French language), and Chess is gone. RIP my favourite game

The game was not publicly listed in the apps in previous versions, but was still present and playable. Now the software is gone (clicking on the launch tile does nothing).

OK, the AI was crap, and the engine buggy (detecting pat when there was still playable moves), but nevertheless it was my favourite non-reading activity on the Kobo ereader.

Any hope to see it back, or do I really have to install third party software?

Nimbus Sans is a paid font. It isn't free.

Merriweather Sans looks a lot like Gothic and it's free. It's a Google font.
