Is anyone seeing a problem with the light setting in 3.8.0?

I successfully sideloaded the 3.8.0 firmware onto my Aura HD. Haven't had a hiccup yet, except for the feature that lets you change the light intensity by sliding your finger up and down the left of the screen. I keep waking the device up from sleep to find the light has reset to just 2%.

I'm not aware of anything I'm doing to drop it down — I turn pages usually with a tap, not a swipe, and either the light is at its usual intensity when I manually put the device to sleep, or I fall asleep and the device puts itself to bed. Either way, there aren't any movements that, as far as I can tell, could be interpreted as a downward left-side swipe. Besides, each time it awakes at the same setting of 2%. You'd think, if this were happening accidentally, that figure would vary.

I've also noticed that the increase of light when you ramp it up isn't on even increments -- around 28%, it suddenly leaps to a considerably brighter level. I don't remember having seen that happen under previous firmware, and my impression is that it's new behaviour.

But for the light intensity slider, I wish there was a way to turn it off. I'd prefer it, when Kobo implements optional behaviour like this, that there would also be a way to disable it.

Lol! Nope good thing I'm not getting my hopes up otherwise I might turn my favorite color (red) when it doesn't get fixed.

My Aura HD received the update this morning, so it's available in France. I haven't tried it yet.

Hi there,

I've just updated my Kobo to 3.8 and I noticed a change on the info panel on full screen covers. Before the update it was shown at the top of the screen in a bar, now it's shown as a small rectangular on the left side, near the bottom.
The problem is that the rectangular seems incomplete on the left side, as if it was cut. Is it suppose to be like that?

Thanks in advanced
Misa

It's been like that on the frontlit devices for a while. It sticks out from the left edge of screen, so there is no closing lines on that side.

But there is now an option to turn off that hideous misplaced white box in the Settings menu. Under Sleep and Power, Screensaver, uncheck "Show info panel on full screen covers" and it's gone, you'll see just a nice fullscreen cover now.

My Kobo has blank screen after the update :(

Hey, guys.
I downloaded the update and everything was perfect when suddenly... I decided to add a bookmark, then after several pages I went back and I deleted it which sent my Kobo into restoring mode from which it won't recover. There is blank screen and whatever I do is without any effect:
- I hold the power switch for 15 seconds
- I tried the pinhole
- I tried the pinhole and the light switch simultaneously
Can you help me out with this issue? Thanks in advance.

The bug with the bookmarks has been posted in the very first pages of this thread. But till now it just caused the device to reboot, not to get completely bricked...

Sorry, I do not know what is happening to your device.

First plug your Kobo into a power source for at least a couple of hours. Then slide and hold the power switch for 20 seconds. Release the power switch. Press and hold the light switch. While holding the light switch, slide and hold the power switch until the LED lights up*. Continue holding the light switch until the LED starts blinking rapidly (discoing). Release the light switch and -- hopefully -- your Kobo will now be in factory restore mode.

* Alternate procedure is to press and hold the light switch while triggering the pinhole reset. Again, hold the light switch until the LED starts blinking rapidly. This worked for me on one Glo that had a defective power switch after the owner opened it and tried replacing the uSD card.

If this doesn't work, you'll need to be contacting Kobo's customer service.

Good luck!

Good to know that you are back to be able to read.

On my Aura HD, that bug triggers a restart as if I'd pushed the pinhole reset. Nothing gets lost but <expletive deleted> annoying.

David

Just a note to say that the new firmware finally became available to me here in Peru.

I love the sliding light....

Now that Kobo appears to be on a monthly release cycle, that took about half the cycle...

In practice, I always select/highlight some words when I use the feature, that allso activated the dictionary.. ( on the Glo, on my Aura HD it works better, but that is because of the screensize. )
