Tom, he was just playing the odds. He has to fill his quota so if he stops every car and accuses them, he's bound to hit one or two every day!
There is a famous Georgia state motor patrol cop who has made more drug busts than any other US police officer. His route is the I-95 between Florida and So.Carolina and he says the reason he has made so many arrests is that he stops every car. As soon as he finishes processing one car (either writing a ticket or just checking and warning) he stops the next car that comes along. He doesn't even bother to look to see who is driving or if they are doing something wrong. He just stops them. As there is no longer any requirement for 'probable cause' (thanks to the Patriot Act) he can search every car. Stitchawl |

I'm beginning to think "I'm just going to give you a warning" is cop-talk for "Opps! My bad!"
43 years ago, in Vietnam, the MPs got crazy about issuing speeding tickets outside a small village where the speed limit was 25 MPH. One of our guys had gotten one a week before, and our company commander was determined it wasn't going to happen again. So when I drove him down that road in our Jeep, his eyes were glued to the speedometer the whole time while everyone else passed us like we were standing still. Finally two cars of MPs shot pass us and pulled the entire line of vehicles over. We kept driving until they motioned for us to stop as well. Two MPs approached our vehicle and said that they were going to write me a ticket for exceeding the speed limit. My CO went ballistic. He demanded to know their names, the names of their superior officers, and proceeded to write down the numbers of their vehicles. "My man was not speeding," he told the MPs, "but that's okay. You go ahead and write that ticket. You can rest assured it will be answered!" "Well, we're going to let you go with a warning this time." Uh, huh! A warning. Cop talk for "Maybe I made a mistake."

You've got to stop talking to yourself whist driving, Tom

Now that I do. It's a proud family tradition. My son talks to himself, and my father before us talked to himself on a regular basis. One of my sisters used to get the biggest kick out of watching him in the back room talking to himself as he worked on his hobbies. She would call me to sneak our heads around the door to catch him in the act. The fellow I relieved tonight was wondering if someone else had received a ticket, because he saw the Shipyard police following him, so he called him on the radio and asked him. Then—knowing that frequency is constantly monitored by the police (just try cussing over the air and you'll quickly discover how true that is)—I called him back and told him that the reason he'd been asked that is that I was stopped earlier for talking on the phone while driving. Except that I wasn't talking on the phone. I then said, "If any cops happen to be listening, my name is Tom Sharpe, I work at (I gave the name of our facility) in building number (I gave our building number), and if any one of them would like to stop by and check my phone records, please feel free; I'll be here all night. But I was not talking on my cell phone." I wonder if that got back to him. I certainly hope so. |

I'm reminded of a few years ago when I was driving up the access lane on the Moanalua Freeway, and the car several blocks behind me ran off the road. The driver recovered without incident, but I noticed a couple of police cars sitting on the overpass, and stopped to report it.
A couple of days later I saw the same policeman in a coffee shop, and asked him what happened. He said "Oh! We stopped him, but he was just eating a hamburger." EATING A HAMBURGER??? The idiot RAN OFF THE ROAD! |

Remember last week how I posted about my car keys and key-fobs....
Well... today I was out delivering Meals on Wheels, and somehow stumbled and fell. Managed to graze both knees badly (but not tear my pants) and got some scraped fingers too. Now you might ask, how does this tie into key-fobs? Simply put.. mine now will only unlock the car; no more locking it for me ![]() sigh |

Ouch! The older we get, the longer we take to repair too.
This is not a vent or rant but I wanted to share it so this is as good a place as any. This email sent our new I.T. guy into a spin yesterday. He is Vietnamese and although his English is pretty good, he sometimes misses the gist of what's going on. From: Richard xxxxxxx[mailto:richard@xxxxxx.com] Sent: Tuesday, 22 May 2012 5:17 AM To: xxxxxxxxxx Subject: PCI complaint We are officially PCI Compliant for the next year. PCI Compliance is just to give consumer protection and deals with how people process credit card info and store it. A cert of compliance is now required by BOA which we have. Just had to answer a few questions on a survey about how we process cc’s. Controller xxxxxxxxxxxxx Anyway, our I.T. came to me to assure me that he will fix the complaint and was very concerned that the PCI was complaining about his web site. It's interesting what a couple of transposed letters can do.
