Thank you sooo much for quoting that correctly .
I'm sure years ago I heard a great story based on that line on "My Word" on the BBC. I'm sure the line they used was "The proof of the putting is in the heating".

A new one on me.

My issue is that people usually say "The proof is in the pudding." Really? Shall we dig in and see if we can find it????!!!!! The point of the quotation is that you will only know if a pudding is any good by tasting/eating it, however good it may look.

Hmmm.... I always understood it to mean something about the tradition of a coin that was hidden inside British Christmas pudding, that one could only find by actually spooning it out and putting it in one's mouth.

Is the new helmet made with the internalcone construction that apparently has a MUCH greated capacity for crushing (and absorbing impact) before it reaches your head?

Yes, 175km, which when riding mountain roads in Japan is about our normal comfortable daily distance, stopping for lunch, photos, road breaks, etc.

Different countries cause different distances. In the US, a day's ride might be more like 250-300km, and in Europe 300-350km.

This is the very first time I can actually feel air rushing over the top of my head. Should make for a much nicer ride in the middle of summer!

I don't know... I haven't heard anyone mention that term.

I just found this. http://www.coneheadhelmets.com.au/

Maybe the technology has not moved as mainstream as I thought.

Wow! That looks like a great idea! But I haven't heard of any major motorcycle helmet manufacturer using this technology... yet. I wonder how it holds up when tested by the various International bodies.

I saw it years ago on a technology TV show. The tests I remembered sounded like it was going to be THE next best safety thing. I thought by now that it would have been taken up by major manufacturers. Looks like it is a little slow moving. Maybe a patent issue?

There are a lot of things that don't make sense to me revolving around helmet issues. The various safety standards, which are anything BUT standard between different countries, etc.

One that stands out in my mind is about 'fitting' a helmet. Head shapes differ greatly. A size 7.5 head may fit one brand or model but not another due to shape rather than size. Different manufacturers and models shape their helmets to fit Narrow, Medium Narrow, Slightly Narrow, Neutral, Slightly Round, Medium Round, and Round. All good helmets have a comfort liner inside the ESP foam safety liner, right? Why not have something similar to what is used in ski boot fitting for the comfort liner? Put on the helmet, pump in the filler for the comfort liner to conform to the owner's head shape. That would mean that everybody, regardless of head shape, could fit a particular model helmet, and, fit it perfectly! When you wear a helmet 8-10 hours a day touring, proper fit really becomes important.

As you can see from this article, when this quotation first appeared, a pudding wasn't even the sweet variety that we now think of, but a potentially fatal meat dish http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/p...e-pudding.html.

And this article explains the quote:

Quote:
The full proverb is indeed the proof of the pudding is in the eating and proof has the sense of “test” (as it also has, or used to have, in phrases such as proving-ground and printer’s proof). The proverb literally says that you won’t know whether food has been cooked properly until you try it.

I feel the incredible urge to kick someone.

In the never-ending saga of my leaky roof we've now figured out why it's still leaking in the corner.

When my father had them replace the broken roof tiles he also told the roofers to get rid of the tiles standing in the gutter. We now know why they were standing in the gutter: the gutter is very low in that corner and the normal tiles end higher, so when it rains it gets behind the tiles and into my room. Why they never told my father about this problem is anyones guess but I was right when I said that in that corner it is leaking harder than before. Before it leaked only a bit when it was raining really hard, now when it rains hard it sounds like someone has opened a faucet between my inner and outer wall.

My father has made some pictures and is going to call the supervisor who is managing our case and email the pictures to him.

Meanwhile there's a heavy band of rain coming in later tonight and tomorrow more heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted. Hopefully it'll be dry during the night...

A couple of hours ago I was pulled over for talking on my cell-phone. One problem: I haven't talked on the phone all day. Here's pretty much how the conversation went:

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"I haven't any idea."

"Do you have a cell phone?"

I reached into my pocket and pulled it out. "Yes," I said, "Right here."

"You were talking on you cell phone."

"No, I wasn't."

"Yes, you were."

"No, I wasn't. You can check my call list. I haven't talked on the phone all day."

"We aren't allowed to handle other people's phones"

"You don't have to. I'll pull it up and show you that I haven't been talking on the phone."

"I don't need to see you phone logs. I was just going to give you a warning, anyway."

"That's not the point. The point is I was NOT talking on my cell phone."

"Sir, I'm not going to argue with you."

Sheesh! I wish I'd had the presence of mind to get his name. That really ticked me off.

I wonder what he would have said if you'd answered, "No, I don't have a cell phone."

"Oh, have a nice day?"

Let that be a lesson to you! Naughty Tom, not talking on his phone. Anyway aren't you supposed to be texting in one hand, beer in the other, steering with your knees whilst driving these days? Oh and where are you going to put that burger? Maybe on the dash and you can lean forward to munch.
