And one more update.
I read the "documented methods of avoiding KFX" (thank you!) and DL'd Kindle v1.17.1 for my Mac (and tossed the Kindle folder from App Support). I then re-downloaded the Mark Twain book and it came in as AZW3, not KFX. It was less than half the size of the KFX. The code view was also much less complex and did not assign a "class" to each individual paragraph. In short, it is a much cleaner eBook. The conversion to ePub proceeded without incident and seems to be perfect. I then did the same on my PC (v1.17.1), re-downloaded the eBook (which came in as an AZW3, as well), and it displayed perfectly as well as converted to ePub as I hoped. I did verify that, on both platforms, I've disabled the "install updates" checkbox. That should be the end of my problems. I appreciate the pointers; I found the solutions there. Thanks! |

And thanks for reporting the problem. Looking at that book I was able to determine that an error in the handling of font names during KFX conversion led to the bad rendering you experienced using the calibre e-book viewer in Windows. I will update the plugin so that this does not happen in the future. |

Version 1.14.0 - 08 Mar 2019
Improve handling of font names and fallbacks for the default font of a book. (Fixes poor rendering of some books in calibre under Windows.) Improve conversion when the book metadata specifies a language code that is less specific than that found in the book content. For example language "en" vs. "en-US". In the command line interface the EPUBVERSION value must now be either "2" or "3". Values "2.0 and "3.0" are no longer accepted. Choosing 3 attempts to produce an EPUB that conforms to the preliminary EPUB 3.2 specification. |

So it seems that with Kindle 1.25.2 (52078) on the Mac it is not possible anymor to remove DRM from KFX-ZIP

Right you are! I installed 1.17, deselected auto updates and close out. On opening again, wham! it is 1.25 xx even though auto update has been deselected. What [no] fun! |

I suggest that you try again. Auto updating has to be deselected while still running version 1.25, before installing the desired Kindle for PC version. Then after installing the desired version you may need to toggle that option on and off again and save it to make it stick.

I have tried all of these solutions without any luck with the new KFX-ZIP format for Kindle for PC 1.25.1.
I have also tried epub ultimate and it does NOT work either. I am running Win7 64-bit with Kindle for PC 1.25.1 (the latest version, I think). |

Bram Stoker - Bram Stoker: The Complete Novels Alexandre Dumas - The Three Musketeers Collection Alexandre Dumas - The Count Of Monte Cristo Jules Verne - Jules Verne: The Collection That last ebook, would have to be the largest ebook of text I have ever come across, and it took an absolute age to convert to EPUB and MOBI ... and I did it twice ... on my poor under-powered PC. Quote:
Question After the first conversion, which resulted in the issues I mentioned, I had removed the ebooks from Calibre. I always do this, because I relocate to another offline PC. When I discovered your plugin had an update, well I added them back again (ADD FOLDER method), so I could re-convert the KFX files to EPUB and MOBI again. One thing that seemed odd to me, is that the KFX files (previously created by your plugin) appeared to be re-created all over again (kfx-zip etc), which took a while. Is that needed for some reason, or is there a way I can add them back to Calibre without that process? NOTE - Clearly in each case, I had a folder with only JPG, OPF, KFX, EPUB and MOBI files in it. There were no voucher files etc. Last edited by Timboli; 03-24-2019 at 06:30 AM. |

To do this choose Preferences, Plugins, File type plugins, select "Gather KFX-ZIP (from KFX Input)" from the list, press the "Enable/disable plugin" button, and press "Apply". After importing your KFX files you can re-enable the plugin by performing the same steps. |

@jhowell - my code worked a treat. Thanks again.
Detected plugin. Disabled. Add an already processed KFX ebook using the companion OPF file. Re-Enabled. |
