I'm only going to use it for some of my audiobooks and ebooks. I use a launcher to organize my apps, but I'll toss a few of them into collections.

Got mine yesterday. My initial impression was that it was a little heavier than I expected. That said, it is a great size and not too heavy. A very compact feeling build. As to the sound. It isn't bad. I would be perfectly content listening to books on it. I am surprised that the speakers aren't louder, but they are sufficient for me. As to music. It is mono but not brassy or tinny. Compared to my 1st mobile music device, a 1962 transistor radio, it sounds great. Compared to the Fire HDX, room for improvement. It was quite good through ear buds though. Also I am not a total fanatic about sound quality, and I listen mainly to Renaissance, world music, baroque etc.

I am not really into games, apps etc. except for Sudoko. Great size for that. I watched one of Amazon's pilots on it, and the screen is great. I was surprised that I didn't mind watching a video on this size screen. I was using the ear buds so the sound was very good, didn't try it au natural.

Reading. Just fine. Very clear. The kindle app seems to work just like on the fire hdx. All of my huge library were there in the cloud and so were my collections from other tablets. I mention the library in the cloud, because that wasn't the case with my audible collection. It got stuck downloading, showing the cloud covers. I didn't have any downloaded to the device. I had to do a restore and reregister to get all the covers to show up in the audible cloud. I have a library of about 200 or so. 125 didn't show the 1st time round. All are there now.

Aside from the Audible glitch, I haven't had any others. It arrived with a 73% battery and went down to 25% by the end of the evening of playing around with it, downloading etc. I probably was only on it for 2 hours all told. The battery on the HDX also seems to drain fast unless I put it in airplane which I do a lot.

Anyway, I am pleased with it. It was an impulse buy and one that I think will be useful. I really do like the size and portability. It won't replace my bigger tablets, but it will have a definite place. I have and love my iPad mini, and fire hdx 8.9 but I don't want to use them in the studio and get either mucked up by accident while listening to a book and the smaller size of the fire is handy too for popping in my apron pocket or setting on my work table. At this price I won't be anxious about it getting damaged or knocked about.

Am quite pleased with it.

Hope this helps someone.

Which is why I like them, I tried the launcher apps but they never caught on for me. I have archived most of my apps just to trim down the list. As much as I complain about the collections, they do serve their purposes to keep me semi-organized.

I too ran into the issue as you did with the audibles, but I left mine alone for a few hours for it to index all my books and collections. I have an extensive collection, I think @700 audibles and over @5000 ebooks. Before getting this one I had over 100 collections, some with close to 1000 in each one. So needless to say I had to wait for it to bring all that over before I added another 10 or so more collections. It was a little sluggish as it did that so I finally gave up on trying to look around while it was working. My batter arrived at around 63% but quickly dropped to 35, but that I understood because of what I had it doing. Tonight it should be good and ready for me to play.

I am sure a lot of the features which are going to be new and great for me are going to be not so great for anyone who has the 2013. I will be comparing mine with the 2012 model and with that in mind they trimmed off a lot of the weight between the two.

I prefer a launcher and use it as my home screen. The problem with collections is lack of support for the 1st gen Fire HD. No point in really organizing it if I can't go back and forth between my two Fires.

Yes I agree which is why my 2012 only had a max of 10 books on the device at one time. And boy oh boy was I missing them there. Though I wish they would have made the Fire's Cloud like the PW, where it would list the books not in a collection at the end when in Collections view. So far I have not noticed this behavior on the Fire, it is like the android app and only lists the collections. Though it is much faster than the android when scrolling through the collections.

Adding multiple items to a collection is very tedious with it though. The quickest way which is to scrolled through the titled list is not very helpful if you have a lot of items, especially since it only lists the title.

They finally opened the page up for customer reviews on Amazon.

Liked the youtube video the customer posted. Looks like the tablet works pretty smoothly. I went to my local Best Buy to see the demo models today. The rep had locked all the screens so I couldn't test anything. They've always done that with the Kindles here too.
I liked the size. The screen glared a little more than I expected, but it will probably be fine in normal lighting conditions.
Now I just have to wait for my 6" Citron to be delivered.

I thought the youtube video gave a good review. And of the features I would try or use I agree with his thoughts. I tried the sound on mine both with my bluetooth headphones and with the speaker. Though the sound was decent, it doesn't have much volume, so a speaker would probably be necessary in a noisy environment. I liked the sound better with the headphones, you could hear the channels clearly without any distortion, though the videos I watcher were HD.

Also, I tried the backup and restore of settings. And though I did not have much on the device yet it did a great job of restoring my device after a factory reset. I was so impressed with it, that I turned on the auto backup feature. I want to see if it can prevent my booboos in the future. I just wish I knew where it was backing up. It says it is in my cloud but I couldn't find it in my cloud.

Once it recharges I will give it its final tests with audiobooks and music. And I want to try streaming video to see how it handles. But I am overall impressed with it. Enough to get my hubby one for Christmas.

Now I just need to figure out how to tweak my settings and to get that Household profile setup. I wanted to use that when I "show off" my device without having to have people looking through my files but it wants me to have an Amazon account for that.

One thing I'm curious about. My 16 gig citron tablet is not coming until the 16th, but the Amazon page says I can order a 6" tab right now and have it by Saturday?
Edit: Never mind, looks like every color except black is only available now on Oct. 16th.

Yes, making us wait....I keep hoping they will ship earlier than expected. I want it now! But I am willing to wait for my blue. (Too bad there is no orange or green!)

What's the body made out of - hard, smooth plastic or plastic with a thin rubbery skin?

I would like to see it next to an eInk Kindle to see the difference in size overall.
