I think that you misunderstood the comment.

The article I mentioned makes reference to pieces of hardware, not ebooks. That data is available and IDC and other companies generates report from that. It is not a guess. As a matter of fact, IDC also mentions that Sony (in Europe) it's gaining market and numbers should be even in a year or two.

ePub can be #1 on Europe, but there are a bunch of different devices as well. The data is being segregated by company or device on which Amazon leads. If you take all those devices (A, B, C, X, W) that handles ePubs, together have sold more than Kindle but Amazon has sold more units as a company alone, for the Kindle as main device.

So it's not about how popular the format is or not but how well an specific company did selling their devices.

Do you have Adobe Digital editions (ADE) installed along with the Sony Reader Software? If so, and if you can open the Sony book with ADE, start ADE and then connect your nook to your computer. ADE should automatically recognize the device and ask you if you want to register it. Go ahead and register the device. You should then be able to copy the file from ADE to your nook and read it.

I've actually haven't seen any ghosting at all when reading. I did see it a couple of times when I put it to sleep and the wallpaper I used had a lot of black, but that was it.

I also have not seen any ghosting that effects actual reading. I am very impressed with the reading experience with the new Nook.

The first thing I noticed is the screen is NOT grey! I hope it's not a demo fluke as it's just amazing that they pulled this off. I always thought grey background was something we all had to live with. I don't know how B&N did it, but others need to follow suit. After viewing this screen, there's no way I could settle for any device with a grey background. It's all about reading on eink, and this actually simulates physical book reading nicely.

The device is much more attractive in person as many have stated. It does not look strange once you pick it up. In fact, you don't even pay attention to the cosmetics of it once you start reading. The device does disappear because you're not distracted by the casing.

I found the hardware buttons on the left and right side easy to press. You do have to make an effort to press them. You can't just brush against them. To me, that's a positive.

The user interface is exactly as the NOOKcolor.

I didn't notice any ghosting after playing with it for 20 minutes.

Moving between the different menus is fluid. The on screen keyboard is very responsive. Much better than the Sony.

There are some Kindle and Sony owners turning their nose up at this device. All I can say is, your opinion will change after a hands on. It may not be the device for you, for whatever reason, but what B&N have done is worthy of admiration.

My only negative is the screen is recessed. I would have preferred it be flushed with the bezel. Page turning by tapping causes your finger to brush against the inside of the bezel.

I'm certain I'll get one. Now that I played with one I have a better sense of what type of cover I want. The initial one I picked out before the hands on is out of the question now. I don't even think I want a cover now. Perhaps just a sleeve. It feels wonderful in the hand; no need for a cover to make it more book-like.
Recessed screen would mean that I couldn't snack on cupcakes while reading. CRUMBS.

I trust your judgment, and your write up has me seriously excited to test one of these out when my store finally gets it in stock.

I decided to get a cover to add some length and heft when reading. I'm used to holding the Color, so the Touch doesn't feel as good as it should naked because it's not long. I can't find that sweet spot for a comfortable hold. Not much is available for shipment now.

I'm getting this one. Available for pickup:

I got this one and I am really happy with it

I always end up buying covers for all my Nooks, I don't know, there is something about it that makes it more pleasurable, comfortable to hold.

There is some ghosting on mine too, although it is very faint - less than the print-through or transfer that you often see in a newspaper.

I complained about both the Kobo and the K3 readers not being heavy enough and feeling cheap in my hands, so if the Nook STR feels the same way, that will be a huge mark against it in my eyes. I don't like my gadgets feeling like it's made from a box of foil.

Yeah I do. Heavy covers too, I always get the "canvas" covers because they feel more substantial to me.

I suppose that's always an option. I'm so brutal with my Nook though. I sat on it this morning. It is constantly being tossed around in my purse, it regularly slides off the bed and onto the floor when I fall asleep reading it.

In other words, I treat it the same as I would treat a paper book. So it needs to be sturdy.

Is the cable that comes with the STR the same as the NC? Are they interchangeable?

I bought mine the day they hit the stores, selling my old Sony 505 to a friend. For my use, this is THE absolutely perfect ebook reader. It displays books wonderfully, it's got the most comfortable feel in my hand as any reader I've ever touched, and the device itself just disappears from my consciousness, leaving me and the book. This thing is totally comfortable to hold in so many positions, I find that I can read longer and more comfortably with it than with my old Sony, my Android tablet, my old Palm pilots, my wife's Nook 1g or her Nook color, the Kindle, or anything else I've ever used.

This, in my mind and for my purposes, is perfection.

Yes, I'm sure there will be firmware updates. There are a few things that would be nice to have; better PDF rendering, landscape, etc. And there are plenty of people who want to play Angry Birds on their device. But if what you want to do is to read books and not fiddle with a device, IMO this is an excellent choice.

I love the fact that it's so light, yet at the same time feels solid to me. I can read for hours and my hands do not get tired from holding it. My old Sony was a lot heavier and after 20 minutes or so I had to find something to brace it against or my hand would cramp. Yet somehow the Nook feels less likely to break if I dropped it than the Sony 505 with its aluminum case did.

Anyone wanna buy my old Android tablet? I don't think I'll be using it anymore.

All of the Nook devices use a standard microUSB connector, as far as I know. I bought a generic microUSB cable from an eBay vendor and it works fine with my Nook Touch. My daughter has used my wife's Nook Color cable to charge her LG phone. So I'm pretty sure it's all just standard cabling.
