Kindle 3.1 Jailbreak

Maybe you could install 3.1 Jailbreak then deinstall 0.4 jailbreak. Because the 3.1 Jailbreak is woking in anothe way then the old ones. Or am I wrong ?

After many hours, I believe I have totally removed all old jailbreaks and hacks from my 3.1 Kindle. I DID have to go in and manually delete the linkss folder. It is now back to the old screensavers and, though I'm probably nuts, I am ready to try and install a new jailbreak and ss hack. Does anyone have the most recent link to the one I need? I'm not sure as to use the one from NiLuje or YifanLu. I believe it wouldn't be an update, but just a jailbreak and hack for 3.1?

That is part I'm not sure about. There are some references to the fact that it may not work or maybe it was that it would not work to prevent 3.1 from installing. Too many separate questions have been asked and too many have answered.

I own a new Kindle 3 wifi with 3.1 on it, and I'm distinctly non-techy. If I install a hack, it will be for the first time - nothing's been previously installed (or uninstalled).

I'm keen to install the hacks (solely for the screensavers, I don't really care about the fonts) - but the reports of difficulties are making my head spin, and I'm wondering if it's too risky at this point. I'd rather look at Scary Emily Dickinson and Scary Mark Twain than not have a functioning Kindle.

If I'm being overly cautious, please let me know.

Hello chamekke, I can assure you that it is very straightforward, if you already have 3.1 installed, then you simply have to download the jailbreak from the first post in this thread and follow the instructions, once that is done download the screensaver hack from Here and follow the instructions. After that you will be able to enjoy your own custom screensavers.

You use the Jailbreak from the 3.1 jailbreak thread which is THIS thread.

But you only use the screensaver hack from the "fonts/screensaver" thread. NOT the jailbreak from that thread. You can use the fonts one, I THINK. But I'm satisfied with the native fonts and have not investigated the fonts hack (especially since it sounds like folks like the Georgia fonts which are not easy to come by).

Someone on the previous page indicated that this new jailbreak wouldn't stop 3.0.x from auto-updating to 3.1 but it would stop 3.1 from auto-updating to anything newer.

If this question is inappropriate for this thread, please tell me where it goes? Or if I should start a new thread here, or in the general Kindle discussion area? Or perhaps my request isn't even considered a hacking possibility?

Since I couldn't stop my K3 from updating from 3.02 to 3.1 (I guess I misunderstood that about the new jailbreak), is there something someone can do to make it so that I/we can

1) choose either page numbers or locations to appear at the bottom and stay there all the time
or
2) have all that info at the bottom all at once -and stay there?

I'd prefer all the info, but I think most people probably don't want that much "clutter".
I realllllly dislike having the percentage only showing all the time, and poor me doesn't want to be traumatized by having to hit Menu every time I want to see any info .

I went through all the posts here and saw where you asked about a situation (previous to one I quoted here), it is the same situation I have on two Kindles both 3G’s (mine which I can hook to a PC and hack/de-hack all I want and my mother’s which I CANNOT get to to unhack so I will ask if you every got that question answered – I didn’t see the answer explicitly if it was here’s the situation and questions

Each K3 has Amazon 3.0.3 OS with Jailbreak for 3.0.3 which is 0.4.N and screensavers 0.15.N – nothing else installed.

Before I get a panic call form dear old “mum” if 3.1 gets pushed to her Kindle over top of that Jailbreak and SS the two questions are:

1. Will her SS hack mentioned still be working (will the pics I installed still be there? Or will she have a blank screen or the original dead authors?), and

2. When I DO visit her and I can hook up to my laptop can I install this new jailbreak and use it to uninstall the older JB (0.4.N) and SS's and possibly (by then) update to newer JB and SS's??

Or in very simple terms will the Amazon 3.1 on top of the old JB and SS work and at some point I can undo the older JB and SS’s?

Thanks for clarifying. Sometimes these threads get very long and questions and answers start mixing together as well as someone's anecdotal results or speculations. I mean it is still incredible that folks share their programming talents and others test for best results.

I believe, at the moment, you are stuck with the way 3.1 displays or does not display that info. Maybe someone will create a hack.

I think there was a thread about it a bit ago and it maybe down the list somewhere or you can start a new one.

I guess you can also write to Amazon and suggest what is liked or not liked about this firmware.
