Yes, I know I have buttons but occasionally I still swipe as well. It helps to keep from repeating one action too often.

I switch back and forth on my Oasis as well. I've had carpel tunnel and always try to change my grip, change hands, go from buttons to swiping. In bed I use a reading pillow. Just always trying to switch it up to avoid nerve issues.

The same here. I am more than willing to do what I can to avoid another bout.

So I guess my 'relationship' with scAmazon is over, as far as eBooks are concerned...

I've switched to jumping through the new hoop of 'download and transfer via USB' which has worked up until today.

I just purchased and downloaded an eBook (azw3 format) using that method, but when I drag it into Calibre I get the familiar "This book is locked by DRM."

I note that my e-ink Kindle (Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition) did not appear in the list of devices, only my Fire HD 10 tablet, and that I also cannot download the book on the physical Kindle.

It's probably for the best, as I've spent more money than I care to admit on books that I may/may not ever read, and have gotten many (thousands!) more completely free that I won't have enough time on this earth to be able to read.

Sayonara, scAmazon.

But it did kick me into getting off my ass and finishing some of my favorite series. So splurged for birthday-Christmas-Valentine's Day. Especially with the rewards coming in so I can pick up more.

It was a great ride, but time to invest in other pastures.

I did it too for a couple of years after getting my first Kindle, but soon lost my enthusiasm for freebies. Most of them just weren't particularly good and I got fed up with constantly having to DNF them. So I quit the freebie trolling and haven't looked back. I do still read self-pubs and many of them are good, but the good ones are usually not free.

Yeah, I hear that. I'll give a freebie a chance, but don't have any problems with just keeping the info and deleting the book if they're bad. I have found some gems in there, but I don't hold my breath.

A lot of the freebie fun was in the handling and library maintenance. Otherwise, I'd be picking up a lot of paper books, and I had to let a lot of my physical stash go over the years. After seeing my grandparents age and have to downsize every few years, only to end up in nursing homes with everything they'd ever collected and loved sold or given away, I don't want to invest in the physical books so much anymore. (Not that I don't have hundreds now.)

I'm a hoarder and collector by nature, so the freebies fed my inclinations for a long time.

Hmm, an AZW3 that isn't available to E-ink Kindles? Would you mind sharing the ASIN? Was it published this year?

Yeah, I stopped bothering with most freebies a long time ago. Tor is the only imprint that still has freebies that I grab if I don't already own it.

Go to Smashwords.com right now. They're having a massive freebie promo that ends March 11! And it's not just amateur authors.

It took me quite a while to break the habit of checking eReaderIQ's freebies on a daily basis...
