Yup. didn't work for me. And when side loading books, it doesn't transfer over the cover, unfortunately.

My blue cloth (water-safe) cover is 116g (4oz) or maybe a gram more, for a total of 310g or 10.9oz with Oasis attached. That's compared to the first Oasis which was 240g/8.5oz for the device+case. It's on the heavy side, but the device is not uncomfortable by itself; I think I'll end up using it more often without the case than I did the previous edition.

I'm finding the case definitely needs some breaking in when it comes to the "stand up" capability. The crease needs a bit of working to get it as stable as I want. I think the overall utility of the case is not *quite* good as my beloved Voyage Origami case, but it's certainly better than not having any stand-up at all like with the first Oasis.

There's a beta release of Calibre that will connect your device. I had no problems after installing this version.

A little mini gripzila stand i've found to be the best for Oasis models (it holds the 6" in every possible angle from the thick side you can think of (when you're way above it, when directly lined up with it. I find that the origami stand is not good at all angle wise when you're at a low table) and it's only about 2.5 inches and fits in the small pocket of your jeans. i just tried it on the 7" Oasis and it holds it steady at much better angles than the origami case seems to.

Beautiful. Thanks so much for the tip. There seems to be a lot of files there. Do you know which one you download for a pc or a mac?

The screen is very clean to my eyes and very even. It's a beautiful screen and I absolutely love it. Have you ever looked at one?

That said, looking at the pics of the Oasis 2 on here, I actually think the screen looks nice and even, not splotchy. At least to my eyes.
It's not always even a question of seeing or not seeing. I see perfectly well that my Voyage is rose-tinged and blotchy... when I look at it in a dark room. The same with my Oasis nr 1 and its cones. But the thing is, I never read in the dark, always in a well-lighted spot. The imperfections are not visible in my typical reading situation, and so I'm not bothered by them. Almost certainly I'm not the only person who never reads in the dark.

That said, I'm glad that the new Oasis seems to be much more evenly lit, even if it's not terribly important to me personally. But it is important to many people.

I used the calibre-3.10.0.msi file for my Windows 10 PC. If I were installing fresh I probably would have used the 64-bit version, but I don't know if that would have seamlessly installed over the 32-bit version I already had. A tip: on your Windows 10 PC, if your program is installed into the "Program Files (x86)" directory, that's 32-bit. If it's the "Program Files" directory that's 64-bit. If you have a 64-bit machine there's no reason not to use 64-bit programs, but I just haven't bothered to check compatibility yet. I'd recommend using whichever you are *currently* using.

No clue about Macs, though.

I received my 32G WiFi only Special Offers KOA2 today. I also received the Midnight Black Leather cover. It’s nice, but I wish they offered the Walnut cover like the Original Oasis and the Paperwhite. That cover has character!
Overall I am pleased with the device. The lighting appears uniform with no odd colors.
Serial number starts with “G000”. Firmware 5.9.2 (3250690044) which was dated October 2017, so I assume it is the latest. 26.84 GB free.
Cheers, Joe

Can you try this:

Put a file on the usb drive names 'audio_test.wav'.

In the search bar, search for ';att' - it will play that in a loop.

search for ';astop' to stop it.

See if you can put an mp3 named .wav on there?

Thanks for the test. I guess it's going to be 8GB for me, unless someone can figure out an easy way for sideloaded audio.

Tried it and nothing played. I might have put the wrong file. the 'audio_test.wav' file i don't have. i put it in a blank file. changed an .mp3 to a .wav file and dragged it onto the drive but couldn't get it to show up or play.

Yeah typical Amazon flaw, total disregard for a customer‘s media history...

Oh, yeah! Not knowing this drove me crazy.

Overall, I'm pleased. Big improvement over my Paperwhite 2. Happy I can turn the light completely off. Like having buttons. Still wish it was a Voyage 2 because I find the lopsided form awkward. But that's my only quibble, and I imagine I'll get used to it.
