It is beautiful but I have not even started to read and there are already plenty of fingerprints on the screen, and the leather cover is easily scratched and does not hold well because the magnets are too weak ... are the only faults I have found so far. I'm happy with the ability to read in white on a black background, that's what made me prefer the Kobo in fact ...

First impressions. A little heavier but still can be handled by one hand. No visible, to me, cones, light appears even. Color of screen is warmer. I actually prefer the cooler white of the first Oasis but not a deal breaker. Logically I know I have fewer page turns with more content per page but in reality I turn the page when I have read that page so not really noticeable. Holding the two side by side definitely shows the size difference.
The aluminum back feels a little slippy but has not fallen out of my hand. I may miss the rubber back of the original. Wish they used a battery per cent instead of the old battery display but can't have everything. |

Hmmmm....I like it but I don't love it like I do my old Oasis. It's a wee bit too wide for me to hold comfortably. I wish it had been long and skinny, like the old 7" Sony 950. I'm not sending it back, because I wanted the 32 GB and supposedly better battery. But, I'm not giving up my old Oasis either; I'll travel with the little one and use the bigger one at home with one of the many iPad prop pillows I've acquired over the years.

Do we have landscape mode on this device? Has someone used it to read technical or engineering books? Those with programmimg code or pictures? I am curious about how the bigger screen helps on that matter.

Blue material cover came today. I really don't like it. The magnets are that weak that it does not sit flush with the back of the device. Really poor quality and certainly not worth the £40 asking price.

Anyone else getting "There was a problem detected on this drive" in windows asking to scan it?
I allowed the windows scan and it seems fine now. Last edited by radamo; 10-31-2017 at 07:28 PM. |

There is no green/pink tinge on my new Oasis. It has a warm white even screen as others have reported. I think photos show colors on the screen that aren't there when looking at the screen in person. I hope you get a screen you are happy with tomorrow.

That said, looking at the pics of the Oasis 2 on here, I actually think the screen looks nice and even, not splotchy. At least to my eyes. ![]() Last edited by sparklemotion; 10-31-2017 at 09:56 PM. |

I am moving back from Kobo and used the Aura ONe until the second one broke and switched to the H2O which is still great and reliable but slow and bulky. I was then using the Voyager which is very sharp and very portable but a bit cold and blueish. Just got the Oasis 2 and so far I think it is the best reader that I have used. The screen lighting is very even, I have plenty of storage, the pages turn so fast sometimes I don't realize it and it fits well in my hand (don't have cover yet). I miss the warmer tone and red night light of the Kobo screen and its better operating system but I think that I can live with the KOA2 very happily.

Got mine this evening in Brooklyn. Initial impressions:
-the metal feels really good in hand (i was skeptical with the metal back) and it's metal looks more like the space gray ipad backs than the surface pro backs (which is a plus to me. just pulled out both my ipad and surface to color match). -the screen really pops with the metal border. wow. -the charcoal stand looks very premium (but that built in angled stand isn't very good to me and the angle doesnt go far enough for it to be useful so i'll still be carrying my mini gripzila in my pocket). -it comes delivered without the bold font and audible update (which i find odd but no big deal. updated and it now has both). -the magnet isn't as strong as the 6" Oasis on first impression but still locks in well. it's prone to popping out much more easily though (ex: throwing it in one's backpack, quickly grabbing it and pulling it out of a bag) -the screen texture is the same as the Oasis it appears which is a plus and leaves smears the same way so no greasy burritos while you read. -i dont' remember seeing the 'night light' feature which decreases screen brightness but it seems like it may be useful for some. -as mentioned it does feel zippy, be it downloads, page turns or exploring the features -inverted text (to be found in "accessibility" section of settings) is really really awesome. (if you want to be anal and search for pinholes this would be how to do it). The white text is really crisp and i can see people finding great ways to read in this setting -audible books: took 2 minutes, 14 seconds to pull a book...within a few seconds however, a prompt comes up 'Ready to Play' while it shows you the percentage downloaded -not sure what "Voiceview" is but it looks like there is an option for "spoken feedback when you touch items on the screen" -the spacing between grey border and the bezel is smaller than the original oasis which means less dust particles and in my case garlic bread crumbs -the page turn buttons are smaller than i thought they'd be but i don't see that as a problem -when just looking at the case, it's more square than i thought but it feels very premium -and subtle but very important to some of us...the page turn buttons make a very very soft mechanical click which feels more metal gadget than plastic gadget. also a huge plus and a little more pronounced than my older Oasis ...lighting is still brighter on the thick side but decently even to me. Better than the last Oasis. I'll always have problems reading in the pitch dark but the inverted text may be the solution to my lighting problem (in the dark, i've not been able to read with any Kindles and use the Aura HD for bedside reading). -last but most importantly, plugged it into my laptop with Calibre and it doesn't read the device. Any tips? Last edited by feelmaroon; 10-31-2017 at 10:25 PM. |

Man, i hear you. I've been disappointed with every single Kindle lighting implementation since Paperwhite 1. have you tried the inverted text with lighting at about 6 or 7? I read like this in the pitch dark for about an hour and it's the best so far. Might help sway you toward keeping it.
