Perhaps this is because the reader is a Glo HD and the nightmode script is not compatible? |

Hi, everyone. I just installed KSM on my kobo aura h2o.
The thing was sometimes it seems like the screen freezes when I tried to shut down. No matter from power key or the power off icon. I'll have to hold the power key to reboot again. Most of the time this happens. Just once or twice it shut down successfully and shows the power off image. Also when I tried to shut down by the poweroff icon in NICKEL mode, this happens. However shutting down by holding power key in NICKEL mode works fine. No idea what's happening here. I did customised poweroff image in txt folder. Don't know if that's related? Oh I just found a message when I tried to shut down while usb connecting to pb: cannot open file: mnt/onboard/.adds/kbmenu_user/txt/poweroff_info Would this help? |

I think there are currently at least two versions of nightmode, the one by yoq is compatible. I do not know about the other version(s).

Can't really start nickel and disable boot menu start before - Kobo Aura H2O
Hello!
I've use this update (Kobo Aura - Mark 5) for a Kobo Aura H2O, after that I' ve selected "tools" > "activate" > "set runmenu settings.msh" > "never" in KSM 08. Now, nickel is not starting. It only shows the five squares. I can't factory reset the device the regular way (not via Menu Settings or press the reset button four times). I also tried the tap method, but it doesn't work. Is there any way to reset the device? Maybe I could force to go through the Boot Menu again and mount the SD card for an update. Is it possible to boot with the external SD card slot? I don't want to open the device. Thanks a lot for help! Last edited by amanita; 06-08-2016 at 04:17 PM. |

@amnita
Have a look at this thread, especially posts 1 and 9. It mentions KSM 7, but it works for KSM 8 too. When saving the script from the first post you have to use a unix style editor (using unix style end of line marking). Edit: Just in case you did not exactly know how the tapping method works, there is a [deleted vidme link] video clip by Frostschutz demonstrating it. You might have to repeat it several times until it works. Last edited by pdurrant; 07-25-2021 at 08:35 AM. |

@tshering:
Thanks a lot for you reply. You've save my day. It was short before returning the defective device to the seller. :-) I've successfully done a factory reset of the H2O with your autoscript.sh (the led blinking) from the external SD card slot. It works awesome. It was some kind of frustrating, yesterday to see the device in this "boot loop" and I don't have searched all the forum posts. With an autoscript.sh it should also be possible to start an other OS or applications? I'm not sure, if the tapping method would work with the kernel of the Aura. I guess, that this was the problem with reset button, the FW image for the Aura and the Aura H2O aren't identically (but both are Mark5 device), so I can't reset it the regular ways. There is no light button at the H2O. I've had the "update" above working, but there was a strange battery drain, so I tried the factory reset several times and was to fast with the switch of the boot menu. Now, everything is fine. Is there a description to apply all "needed" or interesting patches to the firmware of the H2O. So again, thanks a lot for your fast help. Best regards Last edited by amanita; 06-09-2016 at 08:29 PM. |

Maybe I should mention that one problem I see with the "mega update" is that everything is installed in one go. If you look at the first post of this thread, you will find that I recommend a two step installation for KSM in order to prevent nickel from failing to hang at start. I mention this in case you try to install KSM again. Quote:

Hi there!
Guys, after rebooting the nickel system is loaded by default. Is there a way to change it? I'd like to start KOReader after rebooting. Thank you! Last edited by The_Immortal; 06-17-2016 at 09:39 AM. |

tshering, I can't set two "ksmAutoselectionoption" items together. I can add ksmAutoselectionoption=start_nickel OR ksmAutoselectionoption=start_koreader.

If none of them was already set, you can simply set the one you want. Last edited by tshering; 06-17-2016 at 06:54 PM. |

tshering, I'm afraid you didn't get what I need. Currently I have ksmAutoselectionoption=start_koreader set but if I tap on Reboot from Start menu I still get Nickel loaded. And I need to see KOReader rigth after Reboot.
Is it possible? Last edited by The_Immortal; 06-17-2016 at 07:39 PM. |
