I'm frankly puzzled. No, I didn't see sales on any items I've got on my list of "someday" purchases, but I don't usually find all that much on Black Friday either. There seemed to be a wide variety of merchandise, but since I'm pretty frugal and not an impulse buyer, I passed.

I expect Amazon got a lot of people to sign up for a free trial of Prime, and some percentage of those people will decide to pay the yearly fee.

Since Amazon hyped this sale so much, I can understand a bit of the disappointment, but, seriously, Amazon's being faulted for having a sale??? That seems crazy to me.
Amazon Was Simply Clearing Old Junk Out Of Its Warehouses

Brass Knuckles, Granny Panties, 55 Gallon Drums Of Lube. Anyone who paid $99 to join Prime for this sale has to be massively underwhelmed.

To me it seems a bit of a lie. "We are having this super fantastic, better than Black Friday sale!" What they should have said is, "We have some junk we want to unload and use to hopefully attract a bunch of buyers who will then browse and buy something else, so please pardon our glaring deception."

Black Friday implies massive discounts on popular items.

Amazon's not being faulted for having a sale. Amazon is being faulted for promoting a sale as bigger than Black Friday, tempting people into signing up for Prime, then unloading lots of crap.

Some interesting items showed up during the sale, it was definitely a Black Friday sale like no other. I particularly liked the VHS Tape Rewinder, and if that wasn't enough of a blast from the past the Manuscript Sealing Wax
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A2JS7VWO1YAEWI
that takes you back to the Middle Ages :-)
Here are some others

And what do you get on Black Friday at retailers in general? A handful of hot items that sell out in five minutes, and then a lot of stuff you might settle for and they want to unload. This is Retailing 101.

From what I saw of Prime Day (didn't buy anything) I noticed a few nice deals on stuff I might have interest in at some point a few stellar deals on a variety of things and a bunch of stuff they were blowing out at okay prices, but where similar deals can often be found (phone cases, cables, etc.). In other words it seemed pretty much like their Black Friday deals last year.

I watched the deals at Amazon all day yesterday (Prime Day), but I didn't buy anything. At one point, I did have the $199 Acer C720-3871 11.6-Inch Chromebook (regular price $350) in my cart, but then I talked myself out of it. Now I regret not buying it. I already have a nice Toshiba Chromebook 2, but my spouse could've used the Acer.

Today, I purchased five inexpensive items that had been on my Wish List for a while and got $15 in no-rush shipping credits to use on MP3s, e-books, and video rentals. The new credits expire August 31, 2015, and I already had some expiring at the end of July, so now I need to decide what to buy.

Here's a link to Amazon's press release regarding Prime Day with a few excerpts below: Amazon’s First Ever Prime Day Breaks Global Records, Sales Exceed Black Friday

Quote:
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 16, 2015-- (NASDAQ:AMZN) – Amazon today announced it sold more units on Prime Day than the biggest Black Friday ever and had more new members try Prime worldwide than any single day in Amazon history. Customers ordered 34.4 million items across Prime-eligible countries, breaking all Black Friday records with 398 items ordered per second. Prime Day was also a great savings day – members globally saved millions on deals. Customers ordered hundreds of thousands of Amazon devices – making it the largest device sales day ever worldwide.

....

Prime Day highlights from the US:
  • Members ordered tens of thousands of Fire TV Sticks in one hour, making it the fastest-selling deal on an Amazon device ever
  • Fire tablet sales on Amazon exceeded sales on Black Friday last year
  • Members ordered thousands of e-readers and thousands of Echos in just 15 minutes
  • 56,000 Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy sets

  • 14,000 iRobot Roomba 595 Pet Vacuum Cleaning Robots, compared to 1 the previous Wednesday
  • 12,000 Fifty Shades of Grey Unrated Edition on Blu-ray, compared to 121 the previous Wednesday

Yeah, I would have liked to do that, too, but I was on the waitlist all day and never got bumped up It was the only thing I wanted to purchase yesterday, so I went through all of Prime Day without a purchase.

Just of out curiosity: Anyone happen to remember what the price was on this yesterday? I meant to check, but I completely forgot.

I understand what you are saying. But what were the hot items at Amazon's Black Friday sequel? The TV? The Fire tablet and...?

The only Kindle e-reader they had on sale was the low-end model. Why not have a sale on all of them? I would guess they'll be doing that on Black Friday.

Some of the items that were on sale (the Fitbit Charge HR for instance) are selling for less today than they were yesterday. And they aren't limited to Prime members.

The best deal for me was the £10 promo code if you bought £50 of gift vouchers. I then used the promo code to get another £10 off a second fire stick, which cost us £9. As soon we recieved the gift card and loaded it I bought a Bluetooth keyboard costing £55. I was planning to buy that anyway.
