Yes, that's exactly what had me befuddled. It works everywhere else, so it confused me to suddenly have to use a different behavior in this one specific area (actually, also in the ToC as well, I believe). Now that I know, it's working fine. And I like the "new look" of the home screen and the slightly re-arranged functionality of the bottom row of settings icons (font size, navigation, etc).

One funny thing: I originally bought the Touch With Offers version back in 2010 because it was cheaper and the ads seemed as though they would be pretty unobtrusive (and indeed, I found them to be exactly that). I realized sometime in the last year or two that the ads disappeared somewhere along the way with one of the firmware updates. I couldn't even tell you how long ago; I had gotten so used to ignoring them that it took me a while to realize there was nothing there to ignore anymore.

Actually, tapping to turn the page is the odd action. I can only think of two places (reading and the dictionary popup). Everywhere else, a tap will cause some action on the item you tap.

Kobo is consistent with UI. The basic things are:
  • Tapping something in a list opens it.
  • A long press on an item in a list will usually show a menu.
  • A horizontal swipe will turn the page. The direction depends on the direction you swipe.
  • Italics generally represent something that can be tapped. Tapping the italics text will open a menu, dialog or something else.
  • A plus at the end of a line of text means it is too long for the space. Pressing the plus shows the full text in a pop-up.

Inside the text area when reading, things are a little different. Italics are just italics and a tap will either turn the page or display the top and bottom menus.

Instructions to edit a file are in this post. Once that's done you should get updates very quickly as soon as they're released.

Is turn page a swipe or tap? I never really thought about this. I find tap to be inconsistent in responsiveness.

It's both, so you can use whichever method you prefer. I'm a swiper myself.

If you are reading a book, you can turn the page using either a tap or a swipe. The tap seems a little less reliable to me. There is probably something in the timing of the tap while the firmware decides if it is a tap, the start of a swipe or a long press.

Except that a swipe will work everywhere; reading a book, the synopsis in the book details and any of the library lists. A tap only works when reading a book and in the dictionary popup.

I mostly use taps when reading a book, lateral swipes for most everything else (diagonal seems to work better for dictionary pop-ups) and up or down swipes for the collections lists to avoid an unwanted collection opening.

There are some workarounds are described in this post:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...0&postcount=16

In short, it is a KEPUB problem. To fix it you can either: sideload the book as an epub instead; sideload as a kepub with a modified stylesheet; or, apply a patch which will modify the device's built-in stylesheet (which is the only option that will work for kepubs synced from Kobo's server.)

I'm seeing increased power drain, but I don't know how much of that is down to playing the sliding block puzzle.

I'm using kepub via Calibre driver addon, wifi is off, sleep is set to 15 mins. The Touch was full charged yesterday it now reads 67%. It looks like something is running the background
