Display random html file
The purpose for introducing this function with update 2 was that I wanted to test myself on various things (vocabulary, declinations, ...).
How it works:
If you want to try this feature instantly without creating your own files,

Power-off screen
The content of the power-off screen is defined by a html file. The default power-off screen html is .adds\kbmenu\txt\poweroff_info.html (note: since KSM 08 the location is .adds\kbmenu_user\txt\poweroff_info.html). You can modify this file in accordance with your needs. Only a limited subset of html tags and css properties is supported, cf. http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/ric...ml-subset.html
Random Power-off Screen In order to show randomly html files at power off, you can use the "display random html file" function. You can find an example at .adds\kbmenu\mynotes\pofftest (since KSM 08 the location is .adds\kbmenu_user\mynotes\pofftest). To activate it
If you want to play around without powering off the reader each time, you can
This will display the power-off screen without powering off. Close the screen by tapping in the middle of the screen, then select "close". Make the KSM power off screen display also if the device is being powered off directly from within nickel
The KSM power-off screen will be displayed also if you power off from nickel (vlasovsoft launcher's power-off screen however is not affected by this). This activation will last until the next firmware update. Be aware that KSM does not yet provide an option to deactivate this feature. Last edited by tshering; 07-02-2017 at 12:35 PM. |

Thank you very much tshering for your help, everything is much clearer now.
Now, I want an image to fill the screen, so I made the following new html page: <html> <head> <title>kobo menu info</title> <style type="text/css"> p { margin-top: 0.5em; } </style> </head> <body> <img src="imgs/Escher_bg.jpg"> </body> </html> The image is now displayed in the corner. What I miss is the code to resize the page to fill the screen of my kobo h2o. Sorry for the very basic question, I would appreciate your help. |

I just size the image in Gimp2 then use the following:
<html> <head> <title>kobo menu info</title> <style type="image/png"> p { margin-top: 0.5em; } </style> </head> <body> <img src="/mnt/onboard/.kobo/kbmenu/txt/poweroff.png"> </body> </html> The full screen image dimensions for the AuraHD are 1040x 1387. The use of html makes it so you can display variables and generated text easily as well. For most of us, since it will be a static image on the screen anyway, creating the image in an image editing program makes more sense. Luck; Ken Just adding width="1040", as below: <img src="/mnt/onboard/.kobo/kbmenu/txt/poweroff.png" width="1040"> should resize the image. Last edited by Ken Maltby; 04-13-2015 at 10:15 AM. |

Libertango,
I am glad it starts working for you. For full screen images I do Code:
<html> <body> <p align="center"><img src="imgs/sleeping_noborder.png" height="800"></p> </body> </html> Ken's method does of course work too. You might have noted by yourself already. I mention it nonetheless. If you go "scipts" > "browse" > "browse mynotes.msh" > "pofftest" (or whatever), and select any html.file, it gets displayed. I myself prefer to organize such info in wiki, or special thread closed for discussion. In that way all information is in one place. I notice that mobileread forum doesn't have wiki mod, so wiki here is out of the question. And I don't know if they have mod that would enable you (or any user they want to have such options enabled) to moderate certain threads, but that mod exists. It gives moderator abilities to certain users. Anyway, for now we have what we have. And when I told about being slow, I just meant that thinking you need to do a lot of work in short time, it can be too daunting. But, when you do small chunks of work, it gets manageable. I examine first post of your threads regularly, whenever I need to do something new. |

Is it possible that you copied the kbmenupngs folder twice, to different locations? This would explain why the two image files are listed twice. If this is the case please delete the doublets. Quote:

still is in use. But the Project is at GitHub. The "Pulse" page, is what I use to keep up to date. You can start a thread here in the Kobo forum or in its "Developer's Corner" subforum. And/or you can raise the issues at the project in GitHub. Luck; Ken Last edited by Ken Maltby; 04-16-2015 at 09:43 PM. |

The settings are in there: frontlightOnLevel=4 KsmAutoselectafter=20 ksmAutoselectoption=start_nickel preventfreeze=true additem return I'm a bit concerned as I had specifically set preventfreeze=false via KSM and it has reset itself to true for no reason I can fathom. At any rate, I don't know what values might be used to totally disable this check for Autoselect. I assume it is using power and resources for the timer at the very least, and I don't want it starting up nickel on its own, EVER. I have reset preventfreeze to false, checked and it is still there right now. If it toggles itself again I'll report back on that. There is also under the Configure options an entry for KoReader - but it is empty. What is that for? Quote:
Under the factory software settings, I had it set to sleep after 5 minutes and power off after 15. I can't seem to figure out how to do that now. I thought perhaps KSM would take precedence but clearly when KoReader is running, KSM has no power over poweroff, LOL! As far as KSM's sleep feature - I don't want it to display ANYTHING. I want it to go into the least power-using state possible. I don't know if that is the dark screen or the light screen, but that is all that needs to be displayed. With perhaps text that says "sleeping", but no need to have any text at all when it is powered down. It should just be powered down in whichever state- dark or light screen - uses the least, preferably no, power. How do I change the sleep screen display? And can KSM autopoweroff after a set time and display nothing at all, dark or light screen, whichever used less power? I'll look at the 2 URLs you have posted. I did post a query on another thread that looked likely for KoReader, I'll check back over there. I hadn't asked about sleeping as I hadn't realized yet that KoReader was never ever sleeping yet. Thanks for the help. Last edited by Xen; 04-17-2015 at 09:19 AM. |

I have mine set like this: KsmAutoselectafter=10 ksmAutoselectoption=start_koreader But if you didn't want to "Autoselect" at all you could change it to this: #KsmAutoselectafter=20 #ksmAutoselectoption=start_nickel Quote:
With most "sleep"/standby functions, the CPU is put into a very low power mode that is just waiting to be called back to work. For some devices, other similar steps are taken to safely suspend critical background processes. For Koreader the WiFi transceiver turned off, as well. Most of the suspend function is a very low level hardware function supplied by the chip manufacturer, the low level routines to activate the function are included in Kobo's firmware. Both Koreader and Nickel have routines that prepare the device before they call the hardware function. Powering off is intended to be just that, there is a Poweroff menu option provided by KSM and also in Sergey's launcher, otherwise it is achieved by holding the "Power Switch" for 20sec or so. A quick flick of the power switch should be the hardware way to call the suspend function. (And how you return from it.) For your one non-sliding button H2O, it might be a quick press of the button, to suspend and hold down for 20sec. to poweroff. Quote:
Koreader has a sleep/suspend function and you can have it display your own image of choice (current discussion is working on how to have it provide a randomly selected image from a number in a folder, a different one each time the sleep function is activated, by a power switch flick). Most of us probably just have it set to use the current book's cover image. There is a way to set the image to be used when there is no cover or when koreader doesn't find one or when you don't want the cover used. After using the Kobo reader for some time, you might find that you power concerns might be uncalled-for, but your needs might of course be different from mine. |
