Hmmm. I wonder if there's a log you can look at that shows what's going on. Would Console do that considering it's just for errors?

I finally upgraded, and now I'm having to painstakingly identify and reset all the preferences that the upgrade messed up. But the worst of it is, the game center harassment has started again. Not only was I logged on again without my knowledge, but now that I managed, not without difficulty, to log off again, I get the game center logon screen every time I open a game app. I hate you, Apple.

8.1.1 is around the corner. It does fix some stuff. But yeah, not soon enough!

I'm seeing reports online that the latest updates have fixed most of the slowness reported, but I'd rather hear it from the fine folks here at MR. Is anyone happy with their 4S after upgrading to IOS 8.whatever? |

I finally updated my iPad mini Retina yesterday. Several apps no longer work due to not being compatible. One got an update today and is working again. But still, it is aggravating that developers don't update their apps in a timely manner.
The process really sucked, as usual. I connected my iPad to my Mac Mini via USB tether to ensure a faster download and install. This is the first time I used the newest version of iTorture iTunes. I backed up my iPad. This took forever! Seriously, they cannot speed this simple write process up? WTF!! Then I selected to upgrade to iOS 8.1.x and was told that my iPad had apps on it that were not backed up. Really, WTF did the backup do? ![]() And BTW, WTF good is iTunes if it doesn't automatically update the apps when you update them on you iPad or iPhone? That should frigging be standard operating procedures. Why have a cloud that doesn't automatically update apps or photos to iTunes in the background? ![]() And then iTunes went on forever after I tethered my iPhone to it to backup. After 30 minutes I finally said screw it and try to cancel the GD backup/sync, but it wouldn't. I finally unplugged the iPhone and did a forced quit of iTorture. Worthless program IMO. And one more thing, for the ghost of Jobs, the damn WiFi sync is totally useless. Hence the tethering! Last edited by jswinden; 11-07-2014 at 02:22 PM. |

Agreed. I just went through something similar to update my iPhone 6 Plus. In the end I just ignored the warning that some apps haven't been transferred to iTunes, since I just synced the phone and I don't know any other way to transfer them. Also, iTunes has in the past lost track of my apps and refused to sync my iThingies.

I'm always on call, so having my iPhone fully functional is critical. So I thinking may wait a bit more for that. Having said that, I would like to upgrade my iPad Air. How long do you think that the while process took Jack, 30 min maybe? Also, which apps got broken? Documents (an app to read PDFs) and Kindle are the more important to me. |

I used iTunes to upgrade my 4S to 8.1.1. It works fine after the upgrade. I had to use iTunes to avoid deleting all my apps on my 8 G box. I then used 8.1.2 incrementally and still all is ok. I would suggest reloading it with iTunes. It works a lot different from the WiFi method.

Just got notice that iOS 8.1.2 is ready to install. I don't remember seeing such frequent upgrades before. I might not wait very long to install this one, as I have noticed signs of instability on my iPad lately. I suppose the Game Center will start harassing me again, but anyway I have uninstalled most of the games that support it.

It's mostly for the iPhone because it fixes disappearing ringtones.
Much safer to install than the OS X update. ![]() |

updating 8.0 lost me access to ibooks through my ipad 2, then 8.1 lost me Calibre access to Marvin, now have lost access to opds uploads for my ibooks in Marvin.Doesn't IOS like us to read? GRRR
Being a non- computer nerd I cannot change programs/files etc...i just want to upload my books to read them. I was loving the way both ibooks and Marvin accessed Calibre through itunes now I am totally disappointed in Apple. Maybe I will go buy a non apple reader just to avoid these problems.
