I also did a factory reset, But I'm gonna wait for the official update to roll out on my region. I've had hell with 3.3.0. It was nice at first but things started to slow down, books will get stuck, books will not open. It might not be related to the latest FW, but it started happening a few days after sideloaded the update.

I didn't time it, but I'd estimate about 15-20 minutes to process the books after Calibre had transferred them all. I just recently did it under 3.1.1 and didn't time it then either, but it seemed about the same length of time to me.

The 300 books that I loaded only took 5 mins for kobo to process them with 3.2

Huh, biggest improvement for me in 3.3.0 over 3.1.1 is that it opens books a lot faster, especially when opening to a large chapter. I'm making my 4th attempt at Gravity's Rainbow these days (hoping fourth time's the charm), and it contains just four enormous chapters. In 3.1.1 it would take several seconds before I could start reading. Now, with 3.3.0, it is almost instantaneous.

I don't know how the firmware updates rollout -- regionally, by model, randomly, or some combination of the above. At any rate, 3.3.0 just synced to my aura hd today (and all seems good).

Interestingly enough, I just got my Aura 6" yesterday and it went and upgraded itself to 3.2.0 NOT 3.3.0
I'm in Canada....any subsequent efforts to force a "sync" hoping it will discover the new s/w didn't pan out.

The only reason I care is because if I start modding it (and there are tons of goodies in this forum) I'd rather not have to do it twice.

Thanks guys for bringing the Kobo community together...I also have an Arc 10HD and it is painful to see how little interest is in custom ROMs.

Here in our country, we only have the Touch, Glo, and Arc available. I wanted to get the Arc, but I thought to myself, that would be defeating the purpose of having a dedicated reading device.

It's worth pointing out that the margins slider does adjust the top margin for epubs in normal mode so it'll presumably retain that behaviour when the feature is finished.

Having said that, it would be nice to have seperate adjustments for the Aura HD as I find the shadow from the top overhang is much worse than those from side overhangs - I find standard epub mode perfectly usable with no margin except for the first line on a page so no side margin but some top margin would be the ideal set up for me.

I got 3.3.0 today with a (UK) WH Smith Aura HD.

That is interesting, processing epubs wih 3.2.0 and 3.3.0 has been much slower for me since 3.2.0. Although I haven't ever loaded 775 books at once, extrapolating from the time to process 4 epubs I think 775 epubs would have taken about 15 minutes with 3.1.1, 3 hours with 3.2.0, and 2 hours with 3.3.0.

Maybe it is because I replace the covers in the epubs with high-resolution ones, or maybe the processing gets faster if there are a lot of books to process?

So is this release better than the mess that was 3.2.0? I'd seen several people remarking how much slower their readers operated with 3.2.0 compared to before, is this fixed in 3.3.0? Not in regards to loading a ton of ebooks but general operation? Any other reason I might want to stick with 3.1.1?

I did a manual upgrade to 3.3.0 (lost patience waiting 2 hrs to load my library...) and so far I can't see ANY difference between 3.2 and 3.3
Again, I'm not the best to comment as I had the Aura for less than 2 days....

My first though was that because the covers are generated on demand, they wouldn't be the problem. But, book size would be a problem as the file isto be opened and the OPF and NCX read. The sizes of these two files would also affect it. The NCX would have the biggest affect as a database entry is created for each TOC entry.

3.3.0 seems faster processing the books. But, I haven't put a lot on at one time. The five I added earlier for some other testing were added quickly. I'll try my test SD card when I have some time.

So far I'm quite happy with 3.3.0. Kobo is finally making strides towards optimizing the firmware and making smart additions.

I tried out the full screen reading "hack" by enabling the option in the .conf file, and I simply cannot wait for Kobo to implement it properly. Hiding the header and footer but having them a tap away for the popup? Fantastic. It could potentially be a little nice to just have (in small, sans-serif print) the Chapter title on the bottom left and page number on the bottom right, but it's no big deal.
