I would suggest give Sony till next year (if you are not getting an e-reader). The company has just return to profit recently. I'm sure they can do a wonderful job.

I did not even know there were two different Aura's.
That is important information, because I decided to buy one. Can anybody tell me what would be the better choice, capacitive or infra-red? And why this is the case. |

I tend to have issues with dust accumulating at the bezel after a while, even when using the reader daily. Could be my personal issue to be sure, but I think I prefer a capacitive screen.

Considering their humble beginnings they sure have come a long way in a short time and they actually listen to their customers it seems. Sony could learn a thing or two. |

A Kobo is an own shopping centre. When you use a Kobo, you'll get asked to turn on Wifi, you'll get asked to add stuff to your whishlist, why don't you visit the shop? and so fourth.
You have to register your Kobo with an email address. The Kobo firmware tracks what you're reading, and for how long. The Sony firmware has nothing like this. You can remove the shop from the Home screen and simply use the Reader for reading. This is something people will remember when they want to buy a new Reader and this is more important than 5 LED lamps imho. |

And I do occasionally buy from the kobo website, from my PC, never from the kobo reader. I always use calibre to de-DRM bought books, adjust metadatas, and load books on readers. |

Yes the Kobo webpage is indeed good for buying books. This is true.
But for my taste there's too much shop and Wifi stuff in the Kobo firmware right now. I'd need to delete "Bookstore" and "Reading Life" completely from my Home screen. And it's a miracle for my why you can't deactivate hyphenation on your own, I needed to download some fancy hack to get rid of it. I just want to point out that the Sony firmware is really not as annoying as Amazon or Kobo when it comes to this stuff. People should keep that in mind. |
