![]() I have friends who spend $10-$15 a day on Starbucks, and another $10-$20+ a day on snacks and fast food. Works out to over $6,000 a year. I could buy a new ereader every month and still have lots left over for that. But you are right in the sense that in gadgets what costs $399 this year will be $199 next year and $129 in another 6 months. Helen |

About spending money on an ereader...
I am prepared to spend lots of money on it. For me it is a very personal, intimate device. It holds the books I love dearly, an entire library of them and therefore it is totally worth it to me. Books are my life blood. They keep me going in my darkest hours. Some of them one might even call friends. And it is that emotion that is transferred to the ereader as well, but also to a beautiful piece of software called Calibre. I love working with it, maintaining my library like it is a beautiful garden. Well, I am a Librarian and became one because of my love for books and their magic. Because of all of this an ereader is much more important to me than anything else I can think of. I do not even own a mobile phone, to give you an example, and would not want to spend any money on such a device, but the perfect ereader, if such a thing existed, is of incredible value to me. With the PRS-950 Sony came sooooooo close to perfection and I deplore the fact that they perhaps never even realized it as their newer models showed. In some ways the PRS-T3 was my last hope for Sony. I was hoping they would create something really wonderful, something outstanding, something victorious... and if they had done that I would have been prepared to pay big bugs for it. But the PRS-T3 has already betrayed its mediocrity and lack of vision. And with that I feel they in a way betrayed me as a customer. |

I did not ask for such a judgement. I just honestly explained why I am willing to spent large amounts of money on an ereader where others feel 40 bucks is more than enough. I do not judge them for it, because I feel that to be the most shallow and thoughtless of responses. |

I'm another one that would be more than willing to pay a higher price if Sony came out with the x50 line of readers with a front light. The 350 to me was the perfect size, and with PRS+ it was perfect everything. Except for no front light...

I've been using a T1 for a while, and dug out my 350 because my daughter wanted to read a book I'd mentioned. I'd forgotten how perfect it was size-wise. Cheers, Simon. |

And now it's confirmed. Nothing new with Kobo.

I wouldn't say that. The new aura looks really interesting and I for one like the idea of ditching the infrared. I seem to get grains of sand etc in the gap and flies etc change the page for me. I will a look at t3 but doubt will buy unless Sony surprises me.

I am so glad they did not put a front light. I can't stand the readers with it. The clip lights work so much better for me. And if the front light screen would compromise the clarity of the pearl screen it would be in my opinion a step backwards, honestly.

If it is any consolation... of course I do not literally believe that the Sony Corporation betrayed me personally. That would be madness. But I did have high expectations and hopes for a new generation of Sony readers. I feel Sony's 350, 650 and especially the 950 series at the time were the best out there. The 950 to me still is a device that stands out from the crowd, even though its technology can not compete anymore. But now Sony seems to aim for mediocrity or even just below that. It saddens me and I expected so much more. Last edited by Iskariot; 08-28-2013 at 03:38 AM. |

But it doesn't. Not if Sony used current tech high quality front lighting like Onyx does, or Kobo does. Have you ever experienced first hand how frontlighting on modern readers looks? I can imagine that you would be put off by images or vids on the net of ereaders with frontlighting. In reality it works so much better than that. It does not compromise the clarity or contrast in the slightest. Quite the opposite I would say. And if push comes to shove..... you can switch it off if you want to. You have a choice. You do not have that choice if it is not even included, as with Sony's current products.. Last edited by Iskariot; 08-28-2013 at 09:30 AM. |
