There is a thread on this forum where someone explains how you can resize the widget if you are using an alternate launcher like GO to make the recommendations disappear. That's really your only option.

No, you cannot remove the advertising, though with rooting the device and installing some new software according to the instructions in the post mentioned above (I'm too lazy to look it up for you :P), you can at least reduce its visibility - but you won't be able to use the space the advertising normally appears at for anything else.

I know that none of those are giving you exactly what you want, but if you want to get rid of the advertising they work. |

Ok, I originally thought that this March 2nd update didn't affect me negatively but now I believe I have found something that is now quite right.
1) Previously my Vox would not go into sleep mode if there was a book opened in the Kobo app. Now my Vox periodically goes to sleep after a period of time if I do not turn pages in the book (I have noticed this while reading with the TV on. If I get distracted for a few minutes by the TV when I go back to my Kobo it has gone into sleep mode). I'm not sure if this was intended to happen and is now only working correctly after the update, or if this is a bug. But it never happened before the update. 2) When I intentionally put my Kobo in sleep mode it will often wake from sleep periodically for a few seconds and light the screen. Not a big issue in the sense that I have a password pattern on my Vox so nothing would get accidently selected via an unintentional touch. However, I suspect this would drain my batter a little more if I planned on having my Vox in sleep mode for an extended period. Do I now have to await another update before this will be corrected? |

It was a bug that it did not sleep in the Kobo app. They fixed it so it now sleeps while a book is open. I liked the old behavior too.
Wake from sleep is not new. My Vox does it often so even though sleep of death is fixed we turn it off at night so it does not wake us up! Must use battery faster too. |

Battery...
I have started to notice that my battery is discharging much quicker than usual with no real change in my usage. I've gone from one charge a week to at least two now. Should I get ready for a battery failure?

Paul, the last update was pushed on the 12th of March, so only just over a month ago. I am hoping that we do see an update to the actual firmware some time soon (fixing things like wake from sleep, sleep of death, 3rd party chargers etc.), as the last 2 updates (March 2nd and 12th) were only to the Vox's software, much of which has come in the form of unwanted bloat to the Kobo app. Cheers |

I'm a little resigned to the SOD issue never being fixed but it would be nice if the Kobo could be made to boot faster.
As to SOD I came across this nugget: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki...Sleep_of_Death I'm not ready (time and experience) to mess around with my Kobo to that extent so I offer it to those more curious. I've also seen suggestions that CPU downclocking during sleep can be too aggressive. I plan to dig around for something that might allow me to log/check the CPU speeds on Android. |

I think SOD is a software prob. I didn't have it before the first update with no apps installed, now I do. Seems to me some software is running that makes the vox active.

So even ICS Android has SOD... sad. Ah well, the March update fix is still working on my Vox.
