If it was only one product - the tablet - I could agree with you more.
BUT it is NOT just one product - it is an entire line. I have not seen ANY other tech company with MULTIPLE products that are so like the iThings. We've mentioned in other threads the importance of branding and marketing...why is it such a surprise that a company known for it's branding and marketing would go after a company that is trying to dilute that brand? |

Having a monopoly is not illegal; abusing it "in the market" is.
If Apple banned access to buying books from Amazon and BN and Smashbooks from the iPad so that people were forced to use iBooks ... That would be a monopoly abuse. |

If you actually go and examine them physically they're clearly different: the Galaxy is bigger, and noticeably thinner, and has SAMSUNG written on the front. Where I think the injunction may have a point is in the packaging. The Samsung boxes could have looked very different but are clearly modelled on the Apple ones. Graham |

I have a Samsung phone and my mother has an iPhone. We have never, not even once, not even for a moment, confused the one with the other, despite regularly putting them on the same table together. I don't see a resemblance, outside of them being rectangles. Maybe I'm just being stubborn? I just don't see it.

Personally, I find that all smartphones and tablets look alike. The only one that I can pick out anywhere is the Ipad (because it's 4:3, while most other 10" tablets are 16:9) and the Iphone. And yes, I've seen them all together. |

They're actually different more than they're alike. iPhone has that button; Galaxy has the four "buttons" that aren't actually hardware push-buttons. They're different weights. Different thickness. The screens look different and are bevelled slightly differently (at least it looks that way to me). The only similarity is that they're rectangles covered with glass. If that's where Apple has to "draw the line", then we need new patent laws imho. |

Really? You agree that judges are never wrong? Interesting. So I would assume that you think a tiered system of judges and an appeals process are utterly unnecessary?
![]() I'm curious. Are the judges never wrong in their legal rulings, or are they never wrong full-stop in your worldview? It must be very annoying to be married to one, if it's the latter. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have one for a parent. I curious what you think about laws that are eventually overturned. Something like a law against inter-racial marriage leaps immediately to mind: if you think laws are never wrong, then how do you reconcile something like that? Was it never "really" a law since it was wrong in the first place (a little No True Scotsman of you, but at least consistent) or was it wrongly overturned since it wasn't wrong being that it was a law and all? Or was it right when it was a law but wrong once it wasn't? There's so many layers. Maybe something less controversial would be in order along the lines of the copyright extension law? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on that one. Or perhaps you weren't serious with your post. Yes, that seems most likely. |
