The updates didn't change much.
But I didn't get the reviews.
One review drastically was criticizing the display quality.
I've got some movies (HD & SD) for reference on it. Everyone who saw them was absolutely stunned. Of course the smaller display, compared to 10", helps a lot. But in my opinion, it definitely is on par with iPad2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
But I guess I'm the wrong source to tell. I don't see, what's so special about Samsung Galaxy Tab's display either.
Re. performance: I find it extremely responsive and "snappy".

What I remember from the review was that the display was a strong point, just as you have mentioned.

The knocks were for no native email, and for generally sluggish performance.

I can't confirm any sluggish performance, quite the contrary.
But: There aren't that much apps to really tell...

You'll note that in that thread I more or less agree with him.

I've got a strong feeling that there isn't really a viable large-device pure tablet market, and that what people really want is an iPad not a tablet.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see the tablet market falter in a few years time as the novelty wears off, with the iPad still having the lion's share of the larger devices. I think there could be a good market for 7" devices dominated by Android, and for larger screens a convergence with the netbook market, but now with detachable screens similar to the Asus Transformer.

Replies probably better in the other thread...

I don't know, but when I got my Archos 101 back in March, it was the last one in the shop, and I'm sure that there were still plenty ipads. It could depend on the market.

So, now Apple wants to ban all Galaxy products in the Netherlands. And I mean all... So, shops must clear their stores and inventories. Of all galaxy products.

and yes, that includes the original Tab...

(they're talking about the Galaxy Ace, S, SII, the Tab (7 inch), Tab 10.1 and 10.1v)

Edit:

I think that Apple is getting scary. And the EU should do something about the monopoly Apple is striving to get.

Sweetpea, I fully agree with you. And I hope that the EU is going to react, although for saying this I am sure that some posters here are going to flame us.

As I mentioned above, surely the JooJoo would have a bearing on this?

The JooJoo would fit the document that Apple is using, yet was released a week before the iPad, and was developed in parallel. Surely, therefore it could not have infringed on Apple's design, thus showing that these design choices are reasonably generic and should be available to all?

The JooJoo wasn't a great device, of course, but the argument here is trade dress, not functionality.

While I think it stinks that Apple is doing this, I can sort of understand why they are. I've seen several different Samsung products that look very similar to iThing products. They've got to draw the line somewhere... or they'll be a lot more fake Apple stores/products then there are already.

Quote:
Beijing, Aug 12: Just few weeks after a fake Apple store in China hit headlines in media, Chinese officials found 22 more fake Apple stores in different parts of the country.

Chinese authorities said that they had asked these fake stores not to use Apple's logo after Apple China accused them of unfair competition and violating its registered trademark.

Tablets are not, to my knowledge, impulse buys. Any external resemblance of the Galaxy Tab to the iPad is like the external resemblance between my Dell Laptop and my husband's HP laptop. The importance is on the inside, and tablet buyers do their research beforehand. If the idea behind a "form factor" patent is that consumers may be confused into buying a Tab when they MEAN to buy an iPad, then this whole thing is silly.

If the idea is instead that Apple owns the "tablet look" (despite not doing it first, but whatever), then we should paint all the Galaxy Tabs white and get on with life. Does a device have to be a triangle now before it doesn't "cross the line" and "copy" the iPad????

Yet isn't the word SAMSUNG, written in big obvious letters on the front of the devices, a bit of a giveaway that this isn't an Apple product?

I've seen HTC products that look similar to Ithings. I've seen LG things that look similar to HTC products. I've seen Nokia things that look similar to brand x things. And I've seen a tablet that looks 99.9% like an Ipad. But that was some Chinese device. And you won't see Apple summoning them (in China) to stop the sale...

In the end, you don't have a lot of choices when it comes to device looks. In the end, you can only create circles, or triangles or any other weird geometric form, as the rectangle, with or without rounded corners has already been taken.

I want a tablet in the shape of an hexagon.

The commercials would write themselves -- give it a red carrying case and it's the STOP! What's-that-cool-tablet? commercial.
