The reason our smartphones and tablets require locks is because they're complex devices and the lock setting applies to them all. When a device's only function is to switch on and off, the lock seems a ridiculous extra step. And that's my point: Those who pick up the Touch and find it useless due to inadvertent switching will at least be able to use it. But the real solution would be to either make an eLuminator 2 with the Touch's form factor and clip, or to continue to offer both lights, just as they do different cases. |

Include the button, and then add a dimmer slider. It would be a hit, just because everybody loves dimmers. |

The trick might be the placement of the dimmer, but I'd suggest a depress-locking notch at the zero setting. I can picture too many scenarios in which a physical dimmer that doesn't lock into place might get jostled. There's also the question of battery drainage if the light is only slightly on and the user doesn't realize it. Part of that's mediated by the introduction of a 60-minute sleep timer in the Touch, but I'd suggest the range of the dimmer should not be too wide.

Hi All,
I don't have my kindle yet but was wondering if someone here can answer a question for me regarding clip on light. I have a clip on light that I have used to read books for years and like it. It has a big enough claw to clip onto the K3. I am not planning on getting a cover or skin for the K3. So finally my question: Can I clip the light onto the K3 without damaging it? I'm concerned about the pressure... Should I be? Thanks for your time, |

I thought so. I just wasn't sure how fragile the K3 is... The way people talk about how you might damage it if you don't have a case and what not... you'd think it was like an egg or something. It's making me nervous. but if it were that fragile, I don't think it would sell that well...

Sylvie, I wouldn't call the Kindle 3 a "fragile" device, I keep a cover on mine more as a just-in-case thing. You know like just-in-case my granddaughter accidentally knocks it off the table, it'll have some protection. And just-in-case my keys or wallet get pushed up against it inside my purse, the cover protects the screen from being scratched or broken. I don't consider it delicate, but it is an expensive electronic device, and with all the books I've purchased for it, it's worth even more
![]() Besides that, I love pretty covers, it's fun to dress up my Kindle. |

Is it safe to clip a mighty bright light to my Kindle 3? I have one but I was wondering if it's too tight. I don't want to smash anything on the inside of my Kindle.

I used it for two weeks before I returned it, with it clipped onto the Kindle. It didn't damage the Kindle at all, but I found it hard to use because it would constantly snap off.

My own preferred package for my week old Kindle3 is:
- Bundle Monster black synth leather cover from Amazon [a steal, IMO, for those looking for a plain, but stylish and thin book-type cover of surprisingly good quality - the magnetic closure, seams and overall build quality is top notch for such an inexpensive product IMO]; - Mighty Bright TravelFlex Book Light from Amazon [another good buy, very slim single AAA battery unit, diffuser for the light resulting in excellent K3 screen coverage with minimal glare, very good quality metal wrapped adjustable gooseneck and best of all, with my cover above folded back, the light clips perfectly onto the inside of the spine]. I am extremely pleased with my setup. ![]() Would post links/pics of the stuff, including my setup but I am new and stuff like that is seems to be subject to MR Moderation Queue for review for noobs so... ![]() @silviebi: I think the K3 is a reasonably robust device physically and should stand up to normal, adult-style care and feeding, including the pressure from most clip on booklights/clamps that will fit. I do think some kind of case/cover with a rigid front is essential to protect the screen from damage though. An incredible assortment of K3 cases to choose from out there - bound to be something to your liking, style and budget. ![]() There are prolly a zillion ways to attach lights of your choice to the Kindle3, including stuff like velcro adhesive and the clips on the lights themselves if large enough - I know there are tons of experts here on MR on this. Be creative! ![]() Only speedbump I observe might be the smooth and curved nature of the rear of the K3 which might make stable clamping of clip-type lights a bit of tougher. Still, not insurmountable at all IMO. cheers! -les Last edited by lestatar; 06-07-2011 at 01:32 AM. |

I don't care for this type light because I always keep my Kindle in a cover and the clip is a little bulky, it doesn't fit well in between the cover and the Kindle.

It didn't seem to work very well that way. When I clipped it on, it wobbled back and forth, if you know what I mean. I actually use this light now to clip on to my grandson's DTB's that I read to him at night, it works very well for that.
