I tried this with my wireless threeG (Kindle 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 3G Works Globally, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology) and received the message "Failure to update) code U007. I used the file named "update_jailbreak_0.7.N_k3g_install.bin" so I guess I made a mistake. I went back to my kindle after updating, and the .bin file is gone.

Another question while I"m here: I like SOME of the current Amazon screensavers, just not all of them. Is there anyway I can keep some and add some of my own?

Thanks

Dvorah

I have the ad-supported model (friend bought it for me in the states by mistake, can't return it as I am in Singapore LOL). The screensaver hack does not work.

@SunLight: Good to know, thanks! Does the SS hack behave correctly on a non-KSO device running FW 3.2?
I have a Kindle2 3G, 2.5.2. I tried to use the k2 jailbreak. Is it possible I'm not saving the file in the right place. Where exactly is the root directory? I copied the jailbreak file under the main Kindle folders, not in a folder, like I would to put something on the hard drive of my computer.

I did some more diggin around and figured out that I have a k2i. used the correct .bin file and had success (failed U006).

some questions, need NiLuJe's help to clarify:
1) will the hacked version in any way conflict with official version? does the hack change/replace the font of official version when installing?
2) after i install latest hack, theoretically i can leave it there for ever, even when i can update official version? will the official updating change the font of the hacked version?

thanks in advance for your response

Do I need to uninstall the jailbreak 6 before updating to the jailbreak 7?

I tried to update to 7 without uninstalling 6 and I got a"fail to update" error.

I'm on a K3g. Thanks for the support.

Can the kindle 3 be used as a text editor with copy/paste function somehow? There are a program for this or a linux guru that can make a text editor for kindle?

@DvoraElisheva: You need to jailbreak it first.

@SurgE: Nope, probably won't work on a KSO, for obvious reasons.

@morrislee: No custom version tag, that's okay. And we don't touch the browser at all on a K2, so, probably unrelated.

@cleanwelllighted: Yes, you do, check the first post, or track down the message posted when .7 was released .

@ma5yk: You might want to read the first post more carefully... .

@kinkle: There are a few notepad-like apps out there, wrong place to ask about that .

@mrExtreme: Make sure the fonts you're using cover the necessary unicode range for your language, that your docs are proper UTF-8 encoded mobi files, and that the Kindle isn't falling back to the CJK fonts (which might not cover your particular script).

I did read the post and downloaded the fonts. But it is still not clear to me how I can use my own fonts. Please elaborate. Thanks!

EDIT: nevermind. I think I skipped the part where you clearly state "If you want to change the fonts used by the hack, you'll have to upload them in the linkfonts/fonts directory, strictly following the usual naming scheme."

Sometimes the brain is a wonky thing. Thanks again for replying and keep up the awesome work!

What does that mean

[QUOTE=NiLuJe;1535247]@DvoraElisheva: You need to jailbreak it first.

What do you mean "Jailbreak it first?" I am referring to the jailbreak, which I unzipped and installed per instructions (as I understood them) and got the error message.

I did not install the screensaver thing yet, because Jailbreak gave the U007 error.

1/ I believe you are using the wrong file. K3G is for my Kindle, and mine is US edition. What is your Kindle's serial number?
2/ Yes, there are the original Amazon screensavers in the "backup" folder after install. Just copy the ones you like into the screensavers folder.

This is regarding the Fonts Hack.

What if I wanted to just change the serif font but keep the original Kindle sans font?

Can I place only the serif font in the "linkfonts" folder?
