Since when have Windows patch notes been laboriously descriptive?

Some linux distros provide feature summaries and bugfix links and CVEs for the changes in an upgrade, but I've never seen similar in Windows Update. For that matter, my distro doesn't do it, and I haven't felt the loss.

Yeah I know. Would be nice if they were a bit more detailed though, especially with a new OS. They bother to give details for the security updates so why not the rest?

Sometimes it can help to do a complete removal of a driver and reinstall the package fresh. This involves removing from add/remove programs as well as uninstalling the driver completely from device manager and then reinstalling. Of course if the problem is the driver itself, then this won't make much difference. Still, I've had quite a few glitches cleaned up this way in the past so it may be worth trying.

Make sure Windows Update didn't re-install the other driver. If it did, you can use this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Just download the troubleshooter file, open it just like a program, select "hide updates" and then select the Nvidia driver from the list.

Well that was a waste of time. Black screened every 5 minutes.

If I hadn't just bought a new NVIDIA GTX 970 I might be able to talk my better half into it. But right now...?

One interesting thing is that I have purchased a game on Steam, and am trying to download/install it. As soon as I start Steam, and the d/l begins (well within a few minutes) I get the black screen effect. Something going on there for sure.
