Windows 10 - free upgrade to those with PC using Windows 7 or 8

Yes, exactly that one. I'm going to try installing the version you are running, as apart from one BSoD early on, I don't remember any other problems. Thanks for the advice.

I think I'd roll back. If you haven't tried it already (sorry I haven't been following all the details) maybe try reinstalling Win 10 after rolling back. That solved the first win 10 update problem I was having on my Dell laptop.

Otherwise, I'd just roll back and wait, check the interwebz for others with the same system/problem and wait for it to be resolved or see if someone has solved it.

Pretty stupidly, only yesterday I deleted all the old Win 7 files (was running really low on disk space on my C: drive). So I can't roll back now. I'll see how rolling back the video driver works.

Can you believe that it black-screened again during the video driver install! Luckily the system came back up, so I'm trying again...

EDIT: well it installed okay that time, so crossing fingers and hoping for sanity to return to the household .

I updated my home office computer yesterday morning. This has to be the easiest update I have ever done. It took about 45 minutes to do and I had to do nothing after the install. Everything updated automatically. I was worried about getting video driver BOSD with this computer because I was getting it every time I updated the drivers when the computer was running Win 7. So far I have been error free.

My upgrade on the Crapstormer went mostly fine, it just kept switching displays during the install. Wanted to make my TV primary, so I had to keep changing the input on the TV to click confirmations and such during setup. I finally just unhooked the HDMI cable during one of the reboots.

I had also previously been running both the GTX 970 and the integrated graphics. The former powered the monitor, and the latter ran the TV. That had been working so well for me! The iGPU (HD 4600) is more than enough to render whatever I was playing in Kodi, and I could play games on the monitor at the same time.

But that doesn't work very well anymore so I now have both on the GTX 970. I think it's probably just in need of an Intel driver update but I can't be bothered to mess with it yet. Everything else is working so well on this computer I kind of just want to leave it be.

If your Dad is going to use Office, you will have to buy Office on CD and install it that way. Without internet access he won't get any Office patches.

Office generally works fine out of box.
Most patches are security fixes.

Of course, depending on need you can also get by with Softmaker or Libre Office.

I've been using them for decades. Can't imagine trying to get by without them, no matter how big the monitor is, or how many monitors.
