You are right.

I just tried it with some Airpods 3, and the Find My isn't very accurate. I walked out in the yard, and placed the airpods in two different locations, some distance apart. When I looked on Find My (on my phone), it showed the location of the earbuds in an old location, together, far from where they were. Once I approached one of the earbuds, it showed its location, but it was the location of the phone (not the earbud).

This is because FindMy's GPS location is actually that of the nearest iPhone. This is how AirTags and the FindMy network works, it uses every iPhone running like, iOS 15+ or smth to tell Apple, oh, I saw these AirPods in this location.

Then when the owner gets close, they can use the radio magic that Apple has done to locate the precise location of the AirPods (like how AirTag works)

The radio location doesn't seem to work for my airpods. Is that something that needs to be enabled?

Have you set up Find My? Tap on your name at the top of Settings, Tap on Find My, tap on Find My iPhone, turn on Find My iPhone and Find My network. You can also enable Send Last Location which will send the last location of your iPhone as the battery dies.

See How to turn on Find My for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch for pretty pictures and more information.

The Google-fu is running weak these days.

Have you tried it with airpods.

I tried again using “Directions” (instead of the map). For the left earbud it worked fairly well once I got within range. For the right earbud I walked by within 5 feet and it wasn’t detected.

Turned on my computer (running Windows 10) and waited for Windows to update. Then I opened Thunderbird to check my email. It told me I had about 35 messages (I forget the exact number). It downloaded about 10 of them and then stopped, displaying this error message:

"Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox."


Really? But you downloaded several already!

I checked -- I have about 600GB of space available. That shouldn't be a problem.

I checked to make sure I have the latest release of Thunderbird. I do.

I went to the Thunderbird folders and checked for write permissions. Looks good.

Just to be sure I checked to make sure my anti-virus program was on the latest release. It is.


I'm done for the night. My money is on a bad Windows update -- Windows has given me more problems than all my other programs put together. I can still get my email through my browser by going directly to the email service, both on my Windows computer and on my Chromebook, but Thunderbird is more convenient.

Hopefully tomorrow there will be another update that will fix things.
