Speaking only for myself -
My KT2 is the last Kindle I will ever buy. Period.
And I am comfortable with a "opened Kindle" jailbreak solution.

If I should stumble into a "closed Kindle" jailbreak solution, I will post about it.
But since I am not specifically looking for one, I don't expect that to happen during my own work.

Keep a watch on the Doukan project, maybe they will publish a jailbreak first this time.

Hello,
i've received 2days ago from amazon my first e-reader, a kindle paperwhite.
what i would like to do is:
- change the screensaver images, even using front cover of the books i'm reading)
- if it's possible, to have a better way to create folders and subfolders instead of collections
- install simple game as chess or similar

the firmware installed is 5.4.5.1
i think i should (first of all) downgrade to 5.4.3.2 and i read this post:
"The trick is to reboot Kindle with power button after the update file is fully copied but before framework gets chance to analyse it (i.e. before ejecting from PC)."
i will try..but where can i find the firmware version 5.4.3.2?

i downloaded the file. when i connect the kindle to my pc, i can see 2 folders:
"documents" and ".active_content_sandbox"
i tried to copy the file update_kindle_5432.bin on my kindle,outside of these 2folders, and as soon as the file was copied, i detached the usb cable from device an rebooted it (if the kindle is connected with the cable,i can't reboot).
but when it starts,nothing happen..the firmware is still 5451 and the file is disappeared.

the voice "update kindle" is not selectable, shoul it make the update automatically when it reboots,or should i do something? sorry i'm feeling so stupid

update: i also tried copying the file inside folder "documents",but same results. the only difference is that when i restart the kindle and connect to the PC, the file is still there

You are placing the file into the correct location (root). The two things you need to do are:

1- Be sure the .bin file is fully uploaded and not still in cache (the information about this is found where you originally read about this trick)

2- You need to restart your kindle while it is still attached to your computer via USB and NOT ejected. You do this by long pressing the power button until your kindle reboots.

Ciao, appena riesco ti rispondo in dettaglio, ma per prima cosa metti SUBITO il kindle in modalità aereo (disattiva il wireless) e non accenderlo per nessun motivo!
Se ti si aggiorna il kindle alla 5.6 sei fregato!

@GoSharks: thank you!!! i'm so happy, i installed the 5.4.3.2 and after that the jailbreak (i've seen the word **jailbreak**)
can i now delete the files of the jailbreak package from the root of the kindle now,or do i have to leave it there?
now do i have to install kual and koreader,is it correct or is there something that i'm forgetting?

edit: ok forget my request,now i have 2 new folders into the root, rp and mkk!

i copied the file "KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2" into the documents, but when i try to launch it,i receive this pop-up error message:
Application Error. "Impossible to start the selected application. Try again"

do you think it's a problem related to jailbreak,or to my firmware update,or what could i try to do?

@mcriki: I'm guessing the usual? New 4GB PW2? You need to run FW >= 5.4.5 for Kindlets (i.e., KUAL) to work.

i downgraded to 5.4.3.2,and after that i installed the jailbreak 1.14 from here:

@mcriki: No, that's indeed the correct procedure , it's just that, thanks to an Amazon snafu, you have to re-update to >= 5.4.5 once JailBroken in order to be able to run KUAL successfully .
