"No additional layer over E-ink screen." Interesting. |

Hmm...blurred images like CIA photos. I hope this is true and not a photoshopped fake. If they did manage to make a touchscreen reader without a layer above the e-Ink, they might be okay, although they would still need Pearl to be current with new Kindles. Interesting that they chose to keep the same exact names (Pocket Edtion and Touch Edition). Somehow that doesn't seem right. I would have expected Pocket Edtion 2 and Touch Edition 2 or some kind of differentiator. But who knows? |

I was surprised there was no mention of a higher contrast screen too.

I took the photo of the PRS-350 and de-skewed and scaled it so that the display fits (mostly, but not quite perfectly) the display of a PRS-300. If these are real photos, then the PRS-350 is about the same width as the PRS-300, but not as high-- the new reader would be in the range of 14.5 cm (5.7 inches) high. I notice the book displayed has ragged right margins. If Sony still hasn't fixed the ePub justification problem in the firmware with these new models, sorry but I'm going to have to part ways.

Indeed. However, they do mention faster refresh rate, which could be a sign of a pearl display. Maybe they just didn't want to mention the improved contrast twice over, as they already moved the touch-screen layer?

I hope they offer some firmware upgrade to existing "loyal" customers of the Touch and Pocket editions.

I doubt it. Doing so would make annotations and note taking practically impossible. Maybe they used a resistive panel under the screen, or *crosses fingers* used a wacom panel?

I believe the PRS-600 has justified text, so I doubt they'd go backwards. That said, I can't see why the image has left-aligned text....

You think that since that is their newest model, all future revisions from Sony would also be fixed with that same ability... But this is Sony we're talking about. Firmware is not their strong suit. | |

No mention of a better display (higher contrast), which is a little disappointing. I was hoping they would use the new eink screens that the Kindle 3 is going to use. |
