So far, in three days I have read one book and am 1100 page turns into a second one. I still have four full bars!

*jealous* I can't achieve that..

I ended up getting about 2300 page flips before the battery indicator started flipping between three bars and two bars. Even though I still had two bars, I didn't want to risk running out of power so I charged it over night again. I got a full week of reading in and still had two bars. I'll go through a few more charge cycles before I trust the battery indicator. So far, I'm pretty happy with this thing.

I put one of the episodes of The Shadow on repeat to try and drain the battery from full and after playing the 32 kbps file for 7 hours, I still had 2 bars left. I went to sleep at that point. I'm retrying it with a 160 kbps file to see how that will hold up. At an hour so far and no bars lost. The volume is turned all the way up and no screen saver, so the time lapse is continually ticking.

Anybody else finding that leaving it on with the keyboard locked will drain the battery dry in a matter of a couple of days?

I never turned my BeBook off - just locked the keyboard - and it would, quite literally, go for thousands of pages and multiple days of locked-keyboard before ever running out of juice.

So far, the Pocket Pro's battery life just totally *sucks*. I have a maroon one from the first shipment and, despite a rapidly deteriorating paint job, I've been resisting sending it back because I hate to be without it (my mom inherited my BeBook when I got the Pocket Pro and I'm pretty sure that she won't willingly give it up to go back to the Cybook even temporarily now that she's been away from the Cybook's horrid controls for a while - I sure don't want to!). However, in light of my Pocket Pro's lousy battery, I'm wondering whether sending the Pocket Pro back for exchange due to the paint job will get a new - and hopefully better - battery as well.

Is there any chance that the firmware update would have any sort of positive effect on the battery life? I haven't bothered applying it as it doesn't seem to have many features of interest to me - I'm really waiting for eReader support.

Mostly I lock the keyboard and close the cover.
Thousands of pages (about 3 novels) per once a week battery charge
I do not leave earphones plugged in.
I will have my shiny (front coating is now completely peeled off, keeping this one) Blue PEZ almost a month.

EDIT: I also mainly use the SD card for storage.

That is very similar to my experience. I was down to 3 bars and occasionally 2 bars after a week of reading. I just lock the keyboard and rarely turn it off. I'm still at 4 bars several days after my second charge of the battery.

Robertb did say they are looking in to getting some batteries to put up for sale too, but hopefully some other battery manufacturers will jump in and make some as well. Out of curiosity, how are you charging your battery? Is it via AC adapter or USB?

I have only charged it with the AC adapter. Both times, I just left it plugged in over night. The screen showed a large battery with a lightning bolt while it was charging and in the morning the screen had a picture that looked like a plug being unplugged.

perhaps the battery life issue for people is actually related to the USB problems many seem to be having with their PP readers.

As for finding a battery, good luck if it is proprietary...and even better luck if it is from one of the myriad of cut rate battery mfg's out there. All batteries, even of the same specs, are not equal.

You might try an experiment and instead of leaving it locked, turn it off when you aren't using it and see if the battery stays good longer.

I always turn mine off when I'm not reading, and my battery has lasted forever. I've had it since the first shipments, early September, and the only time I had the bars go down were, first, when I left it on screen lock overnight, it dropped one bar. (Thinking it only had one bar left, since I had not seen the bars change before, I quickly recharged.) And, second, this week when I had been playing with the opening and closing screens, loading and reloading about 50 times, and having read several books, it dropped two bars. And I recharged. That's two charges in about a month.

BTW, do you charge with the wall charger or through the computer. I know that charging cell phones through the computer will not give you as good of charge as using the wall plug. This might be the same for the PEZ.

Toeknee: I'm glad you are getting good battery life. I'm happy to report that I am also. At this point I've never owned or used a Sony or Kindle E-Reader, so I have no personal basis for actual physical comparisons to these devices. But overall I am quite satisfied with the Astak EZR-PP so far.

The problem regarding the battery issue, however, is what could potentially happen in the future (hopefully not short-term!). Like many people on this board, I would like to know that it would be very convenient to purchase a compatible quality battery from one of the several reputable sites on the internet. I would like to be able to purchase said battery conveniently not when and if my current one fails, but as soon as possible to have on "standby" just in case. I hope that with the growing popularity of Astak PP E-Readers we will soon be able to.

In my experience, lithium based batteries are rock solid for at least a year, and often two or three years before I start really noticing a significant drop in charge life. In a year or two, I'm going to be wanting a new ereader anyways (lots of new features and abilities just over the horizon), so availability of after market batteries is not a huge issue to me.
