Just a quick note that I received my refurb 2022 Gen 1 Scribe in the mail today and I followed Shadow's instructions and can confirm that along with Joe I was able to jailbreak my scribe. I had to create a new phone number in Google Voice to create my French account, but after that it was pretty straightforward.
This is the first time I've ever jailbroken a Kindle, so I'm still pretty fuzzy on how the scriptlets, KUAL, MRPI, etc. etc. all work together. I did manage to get KOReader installed, though, so I'm pretty happy about that. Thanks for the great instructions and the troubleshooting help on this forum... Quote:

There are several tools because each does a different task. The jailbreak itself is only the first step and doesn't do a whole lot on its own.
Jailbreak - Exploits some security flaw to allow the Kindle to run 3rd party code. Hotfix - Shims itself into the Kindle OS so that keys to run that 3rd party code stay in place, newer ones also add features like scriptlet support to run user scripts right from the Library. MRPI - Uses the Kindle search bar to get the debug logging system to launch the custom package installer. KUAL - A custom launcher that can run other programs. Scriptlets let you skip going through this to run programs. BinaryRenamer (or the older RenameOTAbin) - Tool to block downloading and installing firmware updates KOReader - A 3rd party reading program that runs on top of the regular Kindle OS. |

Trying to jailbreak my Paperwhite Gen 11 using ad break. My device is on 5.18.5.0.1. I have enabled ads and gone through all the steps. When I click on an ad in View All Ads I get a version number, click on close and get a message that I'm in airplane mode do I want to turn it off. Any ideas as to what I might have missed?

during the process, you copy the assets folder from your kindle to your pc and then you run the replace.bat. what replace.bat does is for every subfolder in .assets, it copies adbreak.html into that subfolder as details.html (which replaces the original details.html file in those subfolders). So the result should be that all of those details.html files have the same date time and size as adbreak.html had. if details.html does not match adbreak.html, then replace.bat did not work. I had to open a command prompt as administrator and then rerun replace.bat |

Kindle Scribe (1st Generation) 2022 5.18.3
Ads enabled but only one generic (telescope) ad. Kindle reports 0 ads Hi, In my .assets folder I have one subfolder named with a 13 digit number that contains all the files: banner.gif details.html screensvr.png screensvr_active.png snippet.json thumb.gif I've been putting adbreak files back in that subfolder after running replace. When I click the generic ad I get a series of boxes showing numbers (lbc base ad etc) Then Bang which seems to do nothing. Running Update_hotfix_universal gave me 'failed update' so I've been going back to the start with a factory reset trying to see where I went wrong. Should I be putting the files outside the subfolder instead? Do I need to get more ads first? I gave it hours but no more appeared. Is it even possible on a scribe on 5.18.3 |

Btw I have the kindle nearly full of fake files to prevent an update, but with 20mb free it somehow manages to download a 360mb+ update anyway and I have to quickly delete it.
I don't get how that works at all |

After many false starts and enabling/disabling adverts on amazon I must have triggered some security feature because I could no longer enable ads on the device. Amazon would let me set it but the kindle never created the folder.
I solved this by connecting the kindle via another IP (hotspot on my phone) and then it got the enable ads message. |
