My Likebook Mimas arrived this afternoon. I still haven't been able to use it or even check out the light though, because right after I chose English, I got a page to Update the device.
I am wishing I chose to download and install it later, because it's been stuck on "Checking Update Package" for a long time. I tried tapping "install Later", but nothing happened. Has anybody her installed the FW update? |

I am unable to transfer any data though. Windows doesn't see anything at all when I have it plugged in. Is there anything more you can tell me about how you got it to work? What type of USB ports do you have on your PC and what brand/type of cable ended up working? Thank you! |

However, I just drove over to Best Buy and bought this cable - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insigni...?skuId=5859441 - and it not only fits much better than the one that came with the device, it also allows full access for file transfers. (Without changing any settings on the device.) I'm so relieved. It took me about twenty minutes to transfer and organize all my files, versus the 20+ hours I spent fooling around with trying to figure out what the problem was, work around it and ultimately get it working. Quote:
After being stuck on checking the package for about an hour or so and not responding to any attempt to cancel the install or get to the home page or anything else... it just suddenly went to the home screen. I spent some frustrating time trying fooling around with the USB cable that never worked and tried out a few things before I decided to try updating again. This time it worked very quickly and didn't get stuck or anything. The screen lighting looks fine, but I think the pressure sensitivity aspect for the pen input is defective. In the built-in note app, when I use the ink pen with a line density of 6 or 8, it barely registers at all, even when I press harder than I would ever normally press with a pen. Even when I set it too the greatest thickness, high pressure doesn't get the line thickness anywhere near what it should be. I also really hate the software of this thing. It is incredibly annoying. I just transferred all of my books in folders for fiction and nonfiction with a layer of subfolders in each of those - which is how I like to browse my books... but the Boyue software messes it all up under "Books". (I tried to change the scan path to see if that would help, but I get a warning that it's not recommended and it just changes it back.) I'm also frustrated by the lack of settings options. The Boyue T62+ software was so much more straight-forward at least. I expected something like that, with faster speed and the added note-taking ability. I don't like the way they changed the UI at all. The quote widget is too small for me to read, so it just wastes space, and I have no idea what the purpose of that graph is. Is it battery usage? I have no idea... it's too small for me to read. (Which is the reason I like eReaders - too make the font large.) Another annoyance is that the same applications that display fine on my T62+ do not display correctly at all on the Mimas, even though they are the same APKs in most cases. -- Whole menus and app UIs that are visible on my old T62+ are completely invisible on the Mimas... I dont' get understand why although it must be either the firmware, the different version of Android, or some setting I'm not aware of. Setting options are so paltry though, that I doubt that's the issue. |

I found the way you can install your own dictionary. You can follow this thread
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...13&postcount=5 I didn't install the stardict, I just downloaded some dicts from http://download.huzheng.org/dict.org/ and unpacked them and moved them to "Internal storage\Dict" . Feel free to delete those original files located in "Internal storage\Dict" since they are just English to Chinese dicts. PS. Make sure you back up those files before you delete them. You may need them in future just in case. Last edited by Pink Floyd; 01-29-2019 at 10:20 PM. |

I placed the same dictionary files in the 'dict' folder on the Mimas, but no definitions pop up in the default reading app. If I open the dictionary app, the dictionaries are checked, but no definitions. So... I went to clear the cache because I remember that helped last time... but under user settings--apps--dictionary is nowhere on the list of apps. (So I can't clear the cache.) I don't understand why it's not listed. Does anybody else have this problem? I feel like I keep going around in circles with all these problems. Edited to Add: I don't know if it's because I just installed ForaDict, or because I unchecked "stystem" in the list of dictionaries and got it to stick (I kept getting an error when I did that and it kept being automatically rechecked)... but I finally have definitions popping up when I press a word in a book. Maybe because ForaDict is installed, and probably the system dictionary app isn't working still. Last edited by blue_skies; 01-29-2019 at 11:44 PM. |

howdy folkes
i have a Mimas delivered to me a few days ago. working well, no problem as listed above, except one: It isnt recognized by the OS. I thought I was the only one, but see there are many. I have Linux btw, MX. Other than that, I like how it behaves. Pretty straight forward, I have all the options I need, I like how it spreads the pdf, "cropping" out the margins. Not much dpi resolution, but still works well. Was wondering what you think about the dpi's and may suggest some other fonts? And how a bout a good screen protector? PS! I have no use for the pen so if anyone is interested in buying one... ![]() Last edited by mihail_bc; 01-30-2019 at 04:11 AM. Reason: one small spelling mistake |
