I've had the Oberon with the corners, I take it in and out of the cover almost everyday and it works very well

I was just looking at the Amazon site and all of their own non lighted covers seem to only be available as a 'used' item...have they withdrawn them?

I cannot say definitively, but I do believe that is the case. you may want to give them a call if you are really interested. if you do, could you let us know for sure please?

I'm in the process of buying a Kindle and have been wondering which cover to get...looks like Amazon might have withdrawn the dodgy cover. I don't think I would have got the un-lit one though.

I recently got the Noreve Tradition Cover for my Kindle 3. I love it more than any cover I've had for a Kindle, and I've had the Kindle 1 and 2.

I had an Oberon cover before I bought the Noreve, but a couple of things drove me batty. I absolutely hated the wool on the back of the front cover -- tiny pieces kept getting stuck under the edge of the screen, and it was like a magnet for the cat hair in my house. It also didn't fold back completely flat, which is how I prefer to read, and there was no way to keep the cover open when folded back. I didn't care for the bulk, and after using an M-Edge cover with the hinge for my K2, I didn't realize how much I would dislike the (IMO) ugly straps on all four corners.

The Noreve eliminates all of these problems. While the Oberon has the same level of "stiffness" throughout, the spine of the Noreve is soft, while the front and back covers are completely rigid. Therefore the case folds back completely flat, and the snap that keeps the cover closed can be reversed to hold it open. Awesome.

The leather is smooth and beautiful, and the case has no bulk. The "rails" system keeps the Kindle completely secure without any straps at all, yet it's very easy to take in and out.

Also, I wasn't particularly interested in an easel, but the Noreve has one that is held closed by a magnet, so you really don't even notice it. It's only 1/8" thick, yet it works for those times when you might want to prop the Kindle up.

The price is competitive with Oberon. I used the code "generationmp3" (I'm not sure if it's still good, but hey, worth a try) for about an $8 discount, and the cover was $75.01 with shipping to the US. I ordered a red one, which took about a month to arrive. I believe the black ones are in stock to ship.

Basically, if you want a high-end leather cover, but the Oberon isn't for you for whatever reason, have a look at Noreve. Your Kindle will be ooo la la in Francais style before you know it.

Pictures!

Front with the cover closed. Nice smooth, non-pebbled leather, great shade of red (there are other colors and textures available):

Bottom of the case. You can see the rails holding the K3 in place. With the case closed, you still have access to the charging port, etc.:

Side view with the easel unfolded:

Back of the case. The easel stays in place with a magnet, so it doesn't get in your way when you don't want to use it. The strap holds the case closed with a plain old snap closure, and if you want to read with the front folded back, it reverses and holds the case open.

View of the open case. The slit on the front cover is big enough for a small notebook, envelopes, whatever. The rails hold the Kindle in case firmly, yet it's easy to take the device in and out of the case.

The case open, with the cover folded back for reading. The snap on the closure reverses to hold the case open:

thanks for posting another option! I read naked at home, only using the cover when I am out, so I suppose it isn't that big of a deal for me. the few times it has bothered me, I have slid my left hand in the cover behind the kindle.

you must have some incredible cat fur! with my 2 Savannahs and a Newfie, I haven't had any fur issues. can I interest you in a furminator?

Heh. I have a furminator! It's still hard to control the medium-haired cat's shedding, and that wool on the Oberon behaved like sticky tape in attracting it.

That is a nice looking cover! I love the look of the rail system to hold the Kindle in place. But yesterday, I finally ordered my new Kindle cover from Javoedge. Last May I ordered the Cherry Blossoms cover for my Nook and loved the cover much more than the Nook. I've spent the past few weeks looking at all the cover options for my Christmas Kindle and ended up back at Javoedge. I ordered this one for my Kindle:

Yeah, what is up with that? Our K2's M-Edge case uses the hinges and one thin little leather edge strap, and works and looks great.

I just got a K3 tonight, and although it has the same kind of hinges, and it's smaller and lighter than the K2, all the covers seem to need a bunch of big ugly straps or cumbersome bulky clips to hold it.

What are my options if I want something that uses the hinges and doesn't have too much other stuff to distract me or get in the way of the controls?

And if I don't want to spend a fortune....?

I came to the conclusion that the lighted Kindle cover was my only option. There may well be some other good options I missed, but I spent hours researching various cases and tried a couple of others. I didn't care for the intrusions on the face of the K3 the others imposed, nice cases as they were otherwise.

BTW, fortune is a relative term.

Well, in for a penny, in for a pound. I couldn't afford the Kindle any way, so I figured I might as well get the case I can't afford, too. I needed a good book light anyway.
Besides, with local stores like Best Buy and Target offering easy returns (I tripled checked their return policies on the Kindle and the case, too) the impulse buying was too hard to resist. Plus I got in my grubby hands NOW! Sales tax is still cheaper than next day shipping. :-)

I like the Lighted Kindle Cover so far. The light works well (hope it doesn't make the battery life unacceptable) and it's just the kind of design I wanted. Looks it will shield the K3 well from casual handling incidents.

You people who read 'naked' just scare the heck out of me! I was terrified using the K3 without a cover all last night!
