Kobo is reported to be adding Overdrive support - they're both owned by Rakuten so this seems a no-brainer - but I don't know whether it'll be in this new release or another future one.

That's the obvious new function and was mentioned by the OverDrive CEO (or some other bigwig there). But, don't hold your breath for it. I don't know what murg's definition of "soon" is, but I don't expect to see it within a month.

Ah, I know that problem. I'm sure that if I broke and replaced my Glo HD that Kobo would release a new device the next week.

The Overdrive CEO said 'relatively soon' in his interview, which was earlier this month. What that means and how it falls in with Kobos firmware releases is anyone's guess.
I'm not going to get my hopes up for the next firmware to have the support in it. Kobo has, as I've remarked in other threads, a history of releasing a lot more firmware updates than other companies. Except maybe Adobe Flash Player which seems to need to update whenever you want to use it. |

Didn't harm it. So I guess new hardware is still a ways away. |

'In the foreseeable future' means that we haven't even started on it, but our competition is releasing something 'real soon now'. |

I'd rather Kobo not release new hardware than release a disaster like the Kindle Oasis.
