Here in Singapore, Kobo was (and perhaps still is) the only option. Kindle-format ebooks (and e-readers) cannot be purchased in many countries ... at least that was the case when I first entered this ebook world. One needed to have a credit card with a US address (or Canadian etc). I'm not sure this is the case today, but I don't know anyone over here who is buying ebooks from Amazon or B&N etc.

I noticed this when I went to download my pent up Kobo 'free purchases'. They (the pesky Canadians) are also no longer putting free ebooks in your purchase list. With 400 books, it becomes a challenge to figure out what I haven't downloaded yet.

I'm almost afraid to post this and jinx myself...check all your email accounts. I started getting single use 50% and 90% codes that are new.

It's worth noting that they would be including phones (the fastest growing ereading devices)/tablets using the Kobo app in that mentality.
Personally I would rather use a third party app, but all the major ebook companies want you to use theirs.
Kobo seems to think they are being "open" by supporting apps for several operating systems.
It's to bad they discontinued Kobo Instant Reader (read.kobobooks.com). Then they actually had a case since it worked on all devices that support a modern browser.

I can't find a cached copy of the older version, but I copied several sections when I was arguing with Kobo support when the download option started disappearing a few years ago.

Thanks! I thought they used to have something like that on their about page and that's probably why I misread their current one. Oh well. Without many coupons and with the stupid publishers refusing to allow coupons to be used on their books I don't shop at Kobo much anymore anyway. I actually don't buy many books anywhere anymore and use the library instead.

Yes, even the old library doesn't help if you don't download them right away. The "date read" and "date bookmarked" both turn up some completely random and constantly changing mysterious order beyond books added that day. It makes me wonder if my library has some secret life of its own!

For the 3rd year in a row Kobo just sent me a birthday email with a promo code that does not work. I spent 1 1/2 hours on chat with their rep SParker, who kept insisting the code was good on his/her end and there for I must be an idiot for not being able to get it to work! Obviously they did not say that, but it came across loud and clear. After an hour plus of jumping through hoops and doing the same thing over and over again, they disconnected me. So I called, which I was trying to avoid since it eats through my minutes on my phone. Miquel told me that the code in the email I got was wrong and it was a different code that I should have gotten. Gave me the "correct" code, which was completely different. But when I went to use the Correct code, it also does not work. Called kobo back and got Miquel again, he said that the code he gave me is one I had gotten and used before and that is why it did not work. Now he is researching it. THIRD YEAR IN A ROW!

Can someone tell me, when Kobo send you these 90% off codes, what subject line does the email have?
We have 6 Kobo accounts in this house and not one has ever received a discount code of any size. I tend to delete the 'Weekend offer inside' type emails without even opening them, so I'm wondering if I've missed codes.
