I agree with WilliamG. The variable is more likely the user than the devices.
I ordered my Voyage when it came out but my sister just brought it to me here in Mexico. I like it. I like the smooth surface across the device. I like the higher contrast and sharper fonts. I like the size. I really like having the on/off button on the back where it's easy to find. The page buttons impressed me so much I turned them off and really don't see the point to them. I hate the Origami cover. It's fine if you're reading at a table or desk but most of my reading isn't at a table or a desk and in a chair, on a park bench, sitting on a curb, or standing in line at the market the Origami cover is a pain. I am paying the shipping to have a better cover sent to me and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My opinion of the Voyage is positive overall but I don't think it's worth the price. If it is lost or stolen I would probably replace it with a Paperwhite 2. |

I got mine today, and I am extremely impressed. The screen is just beautiful. I love how slim it is.

Glad you like it! I love mine. For those looking for a case, I'm enjoying this one. The ACcase. I got the pink one.

Thanks for the case rec. I got a WAWO black slim case, but not super happy with the hinge. (It may just be folding cases in general that annoy me). The hinge on the WAWO....when it's closed, there is a gap on that side, between the case and the device. How does it close on the ACcase? Is there any gap when it's closed?

I wouldn't say so. I can't see any daylight through there. I even held it up to the light, to try to see through. It fits right up against the Kindle.

I went to best buy the other day and saw the voyage and paper white side by side. Set them to same font and size. Honestly, at least under the bright light on the best buy floor I could not see any difference between the two screens. Maybe the voyage font was a little crisper, but maybe that was just my own expectation. The voyage has a nicer form factor, definitely. But it's not something I'd pay an extra $80 for, especially when there is no jailbreak and hence no custom font.

In my normal reading conditions my Voyage is superior compared to my PW1. No blotches and noticeable higher resolution.

The Voyage is, in my opinion, clearly superior to the PW1 in lighting and font sharpness and to the PW2 in font sharpness. I ended up switching to the Kobo H2O because I like the huge storage of the memory card slot, the automatic folder control with Calibre and the more paper-like quality of the screen (more bone and less blue) but I plan to upgrade my wife from her PW1 to the Voyager. She likes to keep things simple and downloading books into the Kobo is more technical than being nuzzled in the very user friendly Amazon ordering system. Heck I still buy most of my books from Amazon and convert them for the Kobo. If you like the Amazon ecosystem you will love the Voyage. If you use it for a day or two you won't want to go back to the PW.

Has anybody seen a case that covers the entire Voyage, including the buttons on the side? (*) AFAIK, they do not need to be exposed to be used. I don't like cases with those cutouts, and I also don't like the slim cases. They often have sharp edges.
(*) Obviously, I don't want the screen covered, you smartypants. Admit it, you *were* thinking of cracking that joke, weren't you? ![]() ![]() |

I got myself a new Voyage, and while I'm pleased with the device, it was a difficult process. What I mean is that I decided to play the exchange game...
I went through four of them, in the hopes of getting one without a tinted gradient. Thankfully Best Buy was very accommodating. All four had the gradient, but the amount of gradient -- specifically, the amount of greenish tint in the top half -- varied by device. One of the four had a very pink lower right corner, which was especially annoying. In another unit, the amount of tint in the top left seemed a little darker than in the top right. I'm not sure if there are any units out there with no gradient, though I decided I could live with the fourth unit that I got my hands on, as it has a gradient that seems to be more subtle than the rest of the units I tried. The Voyage is clearly a great device, and I don't know if the gradient issues are due to poor quality control or due to issues that are just extremely tough to control for, at least at a price point that people are willing to pay. It's a huge step up from my Kindle 4, and so despite the hassle I went through and the fact that it's not 100% perfect, I'm nonetheless satisfied with it. I even like the Origami cover far more than I thought I would. I now like reading with the kindle propped up, even though this isn't something that I used to do with my old Kindle, and it works *really* well for holding up the Kindle in bed, in my preferred reading position (laying on my side). Though I do think that the Voyage 2 might be the one to get, for those who can afford to be more patient. It'll be a really killer device if they can get the screen just a little more white & uniform. |

If you mean covering the page turn spots, I haven't seen any cover that goes over those, but this case offers more protection than any other I've seen, and feels better in my hand - the Swees case made me afraid I was going to drop it whenever I picked it up because it felt slick.
