Tony, I have quite a few (around 1800) books on my Voyage, and personally I find that Calibre "plugboards" remove the need for collections. They let me easily organise my books in series (which is all I used to use collections for) and they work completely automatically when I load my books. Have you looked at using plugboards?

Yes, I have, Harry. And I retired confused. I need to revisit them if they can create collections that the new Kindles recognise. Tony Last edited by TonyGamble; 02-03-2015 at 06:34 AM. Reason: punctuation |

Eg, on my Kindle, when I look at my Agatha Christie books I see: Poirot 01: The Mysterious Affair at Styles Poirot 02: Murder on the Links etc. The series prefix is automatically added by the plugboard, hence I don't need to use collections for series. |

First impression? Worthy upgrade from my PW1
Got my Voyage yesterday. First impression? Wow, what a great upgrade from the PW1. The adaptive light appeared to be a bit on the bright side. I just left it go since I had too much fun reading with it. After a while it dawned on me that the light is supposed to be that bright. My PW I always treated as an eink reader with built in frontlight. Doh, that is what it is. Use the light when you need it, don't use it otherwise. So I set it at a low level and forget about the light. The Voyage on the other hand is not an eink reader with builtin light when needed, but rather an eink reader with a light as essential part of the whole experience. To fully enjoy it the light needs to be on and the Voyage needs to stay in control with adaptive light and nightlight enabled. Apparently it knows better than myself how bright it should be.
Subjectively my Voyage has a much better and more even and uniform light than my PW. Objectively I can almost see the more blueish bottom. Almost? Yes almost, as I cannot tell at all once I read - the difference is way too subtle to be bothered with - even when turning it up higher than the adaptive light wants to. Analyze the picture if you want, but I won't change my mind about loving the screen on my Voyage. Attached a quick shot with phone with Revival: A Novel by Stephen King. |

So glad you like it! Regarding the light: you can train it. If you think it is too bright, reduce the light. The adaptive lighting will "learn" what you like.
Have fun, |

![]() I too pretty much kept the light on the same level on the PW1, now I don't have to worry about that anymore, it just always looks properly lit. |

you train the light to change to the levels you want. It learns what you like.
Glad you mentioned that. I don't think it is explained in the Help manual. Maybe it is but I did not spot it. I tried Auto. I did not like its suggestion so I have not tried it since. Tony |

I find that the auto brightness does some strange things.
I can be sitting still reading when the light level will fade down low over the course of about 5 seconds, stay down there for a minute and then go back bright again. This was all sitting in the same location and not covering the light sensor or there being any change to the ambient lighting. |

Yeah, the light on the newer readers is an integral part of the screen nowadays. If one gets it just right, the screen mimics paper to perfection.

Just turn the brightness up or down until it's at the level you prefer, and it will remember your preferences.
With 'auto' ticked I assume? Tony |

I just ordered one of these, with the assumption that I could embed my favorite font into an AZW3 and side load it.
Does the Voyage have a "publisher font" setting? I can't find any info. I know it could be done with the Paperwhite. |
