But in addition to that, I think the guidelines would lead to bad publicity due to sheer complexity.

If I was making the cutoffs, one big goal would be to limit shipping costs. So if someone returned a very heavy, relatively low priced item, the weighting would be high:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wagg-Complet...words=dog+food

But if I returned an eBook five minutes after purchase, that might hardly count.

Something that has to be shipped, but is light, such as a computer chip, would count somewhere in the middle.

I'd also consider if shipping was free, if the item was returned with packaging intact, and whether the scenario required Amazon to pay return postage.

Then there's the return rate for the item purchased. If sized clothing has a very high return rate, and the customer only buys clothes, a higher return rate is going to be acceptable.

Then there's the question of whether the cutoff would be the same in every country. From a business standpoint, as a loyal Amazon middle manager, I'd be more strict if the shipping costs in that country are high. But if it ever got out, that, oh, say, Josieb1 got hit because of shopping while British, I don't think that would go over too well.

How about, my Walmart and Amazon, right or wrong, but if wrong to set them right?

Mine? Yep. My retirement kitty is to a large extent invested, by my employer, in the S&P 500. There probably aren't many companies discussed here (except publishers) where I don't have a share equivalent at this point.
Your last part is a different kettle of fish.
You through no choice of your own are invested in the companies. So yes, you have a right to scream and gripe and try to make it right.
You might want to see if part of your retirement is in precious metals. Or maybe you don't want to know.

Usually that happens when the columns are too narrow to display the entire test within, and csv files won't save your column spacing to prevent that from happening each time you open the file. I usually resave it as an excel file, adjust my columns and resave and then the column width stays and the numbers turn into real dates as they should.

No, it wasn't showing invalid like ###### (or whatever LO would show in that case), but was interpreting the numbers as text and no amount of reformatting the cells would cause them to be numbers. If you copied the text you could see that it was interpreting them as '$25.14 (with the tickmark to indicate the literal string).

One thing I do with audiobooks from Audible is to download them and put them in iTunes. I have always used the audible app but I'm going to see what happens if I load them onto my iPhone as iBooks now plays audiobooks.

If worst comes to worst, you can always use the old "play and record" trick. (As if you would connect two tape decks, playing on one, recording on the other.) You'll need a virtual audio cable to do this between applications on a computer.

I don't think I can explain further without getting into a 'How to circumvent DRM" though...

It is quite common to get these type emails from the account specialists. You wont get any info out of them. The only time I have seen anything done is when the person contacted Jeff's office and made a big stink about it.

I would not be surprised if there are no "Account Specialists."

The e-mail regarding too many returns is probably automatically triggered, and if someone sends a complaint e-mail about it, the rep stops reading as soon as it's obvious that the mail is about the returns. He clicks canned answer 216, and clicks "send".

I know. I've worked in CS for different, very large companies, Canon and HP among them. They also had 'departments' that either didn't exist, or the 'department' was any colleague that's not me.

Angry customer? "I'm going to put you through to our complaints department." That 'department' is the person sitting to the left of me. It would be entirely possible that, two seconds later, I'd be the 'complaints department' for the person to the right of me.

I'm glad I haven't been working in CS for over 10 years. I'd rather go work in a factory to be honest.

It apparently turns out that closing your account doesn't deny you access to your library. That's a good thing because your solution would only work for as long as her current devices last. She could strip the DRM of course but I'm not sure most people know much about that.

Which is about the only way they can respond.

Josie, what type of remedy are looking for? To be blunt, Amazon accepts refunds for most any reason, so you giving a detailed explanation why you returned each item will probably fall on deaf ears.

You've received a notice for the past two years about excessive refunds - no one at Amazon can change your refund ratio so it falls below Amazon averages.

I'm just trying to understand exactly what you want Amazon to do - perhaps we can come up with some ideas to reduce the stress this is causing you.
